Hey
I'm heading over the Korea in February with EPIK and I'm looking to get involved in sports over there.
Golf - anyone what the green-fees are like? are many courses public? golf club rental?
Soccer - are there many local teams you can join? indoor or outdoor.
Field hockey - same idea as soccer, are there many local teams you can join? are the domestic leagues big or small?
And does not speaking much Korea kind of prevent you from really getting involved with local Korean teams, or do you kinda need to find an expat team somewhere? |

I'm in a similar situation. I'm wondering if anyone plays basketball over there. |

I'm in Daegu, there are a couple of expat sport clubs all over the country, not sure where or what exactly, but ask the supervisors during the EPIK orientation, they will know the specifics.
Expat teams are common in the major cities. Soccer is popular among expats, not so much hockey. Basketball, depends where you end up. No idea about golf clubs. Competitive leagues are few and far between.
I am a member of a local outdoor FUTSAL club, some teachers at my school asked me to join them. It's really fun, good exercise and does wonders for bonding with the locals, everyone else is Korean except me. These "Korean" teams don't just accept anyone though, one has to be invited. It's not about if one can speak the language when wanting to join a local club, more like who one knows.
During your orientation you will find people with similar interests and Facebook groups will start popping up with events and clubs for alot of activities. So no worries. |

golf is very expensive--greens fees around 200,000 won on weekdays. Some 9 hole par-3 courses are much more affordable provided there is one nearby to where you live. |
