My visa will end, yea!, December 31st. Im leaving my job, and looking for a new one, and all of this wonderful scheeht!
I went to immigration and they just told me I need my apostlized degree, maybe, but not for sure, the CBC from the FBI, maybe, but its on "All-Stop" which I guess means I cant get it? They couldnt explain it really so...
SO~ PLEASE SOMEONE!
1) I need to get my Diploma Notarized and Apostilized?
2) and I need the CBC and I need that Notarized and Apotilized?
So, since I have my Diploma here with me in K-land, I need a new one?
Thank You, I will put down the hangmans noose for now. man. |

Dude! I feel for yeah.
It is true all that shenanigans is entirely true. Best of luck man, if anyone deserves a pass it's someone who has been here a decade. |

Enjoy your 6 months off getting it all done. Maybe allow another 6 on top for actually getting a job. |

Actually, no. People like the OP are the target of these new regulations. I sympathize with you, OP - I agree that it must be incredibly frustrating to have to jump through new hoops and wires to continue living somewhere that you clearly must consider home at this point. But the reason for the new record check requirements is because so many Americans got in with out-of-state ones in the past (got a criminal record in Iowa? Just get your check done in Nebraska and it'll be clean!) so they want to make sure that teachers who have been here a long time actually have the clean national records they should have had all along. |

The ultimate irony is that while people believe that what you said is true, it really isn't. Most states have linked their records to most other states. Your Nebraska record check will show your Iowa convictions. It is, and has been for many years, very difficult to find a state that does not link all major records with the other states. At the same time, the FBI does not always have all state records. Many local jurisdictions and minor state charges never make it to the FBI.
Immigration just wants to show they are doing "something" about the "problem." Recent changes requiring your degree to be apostilled but dropping the requirement for transcripts has opened the door to fake degrees again. It's easy to get a fake degree apostilled. Transcripts provide better proof. |

Im going to use that aposilte service and just send them the diploma, i dont need it until then, and I can get a copy anytime. its pricey for sure, but man, this crap. as far as the cbc, im going to send it in just in case, ill be out 30 bucks anyway. There is so much mess about that, Ill just do it to show Im starting it.
I think finding the job is the easy part now. Yep, I agree that Immi is just trying to SHOW (which is key here, isnt it) theyre doing something.), what a pain in the ass. please god, let them be over with it aftr that. Do they want me to wear iron pants now so I wont soil their women?!? man.. |

So you have been here for 10 years and you just now have learned of the changes, plus too boot you also joined ESL cafe a couple months ago? Where have your been? People have been complaining of the changes here for months!
You really need to improve your sources of information.
The cycle of stupid and even smart changes to E-2 visa and other visas changes is about 2 years here. So heres a big hint every 2 years expect something to have changed - big. The status quo does not really operate here. Even if you got in once does not expect next time to be completely safe.
Still Good Luck.

I'd be careful with this. I've been told numerous times that actual diplomas are NOT being accepted, with or without an apostille. (Beats me as to why.) You couldn't just scan your diploma and then print it out at work? It doesn't need to be an "official" copy, just notarized. |

Called the apostile service in the u.s. twice today. they said they have to see the original (so, yours or an extra ordered from your uni) has to be seen, and they make a copy and have it notarized and aposilted. its costing me 265 (w/shipping from here) or so, but the less the hassel for me the better.
I asked them if theyre dealing with peeps in Korea and they said a few and this is how theyve done it and it has had no problems being accepted.
I hope not for $250! |

My coworker also called the KCUE and the said they "maybe" will be able to check peoples credentials from after Christmas. "maybe"
itll probably cost me about 1000 or so (japan visa run also, maybe), but please god Ill pay it if this will be the last time.
ill also just have my family send the cbc (that has to be apostiled to) to the apostile service, its alot, but the ease of it all maybe worth it. i dont like having to ask people to do my dirty work for me, you know?
thats 500 bones or so right there. wow. ill be eating ramen alot next month |

ive tried to join for like 5 years but they never let me on until this year, dont know why. I try not to spend alot of time online, I knew about the changes roughly. I just got thrown when I went to the local immi which i live near. If they didnt know exactly, then I started to panic.
hopefully, the apostiled diploma and proof I sent off for a CBC (I photocopied everything, including my local CSI fingerprint record!) will be enough for a visa this time. I wont apostile the cbc unless I need to (spend 18 bones and 15 for shipping from here, hopefully will be enough).
thanks though, hopefully others here reading this thread will also benefit. |

Are you serious? It's practically impossible unless you're 30 years old, have lived here forever, earned a couple of master's degrees and your Ph.D. in Korea, earn a crapload of money, contribute to Korean society in some meaningful and documentable way, and are fluent in Korean!
For most people, it would be easier to change our DNA to become real Koreans. Once we pass the early 30's it's nigh unto impossible to even have a snowball's chance in hell at this. |
