Has anyone used a travel agent here? Is it a better deal than trying to book flights on my own? Usually I do all my own travel stuff, but it might be too late for good deals for a late February vacation. If I can get a decent package from a travel agent for something like 3 or 4 days at a hotel with airfare, I was thinking about not taking my return flight back, staying somewhere cheap for the next 5 or 6 days and booking a one way back on my own. I have some cool Korean friends and coworkers who would help me with the language barrier with a Korean travel agent. I was looking at the Philipines, BTW. Thanks. |

You are certainly not too late. I saw cheap tickets just a few days ago.

You'll have to decide where you want to go, then fly into either Manila or Cebu and then get to an island destination from there.
You can PM me or Ttompatz for more information. Or post on here.
Don't do a tour package. You'll be in a group with tons of Korea,s all in Korean, being fed crappy Korean food. The price is reasonable but you'll pay an extra charge, as rates are based on 2-person occupancy. |

If you go on package tours, you'll also be expected to go on water sports or activities that are akin to highway robbery. I once paid $100 for an hour-long massage while on a package and vowed never to go on one again. |

I was thinking of going to bohol. I have about 10 days to use up. Bohol seems like it has a variety of things to do as in beach/hike. Most flights to cebu are hovering around 250-300,000 won each way. Looks like travel agents bought up all the promos. I am actually going with my girlfriend, so we are looking for 2 person accomodations/events. I like to snorkel, scuba, hike, relax on the beach, boogie board, etc. What is a reasonable amount to spend on accomodations/airfair/food/activies in the Philipines? |

Travelling as a tourist and doing tourist stuff (diving, tours, shopping, hotels, nice meals, etc) you can reasonably expect to spend about US$100 per day (slightly more as a couple - $120).
You CAN cheap out and do it for less but really, who wants to do the backpacker thing when you don't need to and for a small increase in your budget you can go top of the line.
Take about $1200 with you (not including airfare) for the two of you.
You can always bring home anything you don't spend and it really sucks to be on vacation and pinching pennies at the same time.

250-300 each way on Cebu Pacific is a rip-off. Check out Cathay Pacific instead.
You can buy those flights or wait for another sale. That might be chancing it, but sales are fairly frequent. We got 147,000 round trip to Manila in late Feb, but that was a huge promo.
I don't think travel agents are allowed to buy promos from Cebu Pacific.

No luck on cathay. 500,000 round trip with crazy layovers in HK (like 8-20 hours). Might just have to bite the bullet. How far out do the promotions usually start so I know for the next time? |

If you're lucky there will be one more by the end of this year, for flights from Jan 1- March 31. There have been at least 3 already in the last month.
Soon the sales will be for flights April-June.
I will keep an eye out for you and PM you if I see something good.
