I always thought that people added a post with +1 so that they could be auto subscribed to that thread, and they wouldn't have to go around searching for it later.
As for this thread, I give it a 6/10. Not enough anger or bad language in the OP to make it a real hot thread. Lacks passion.

Actually i disagree with the OP.
To anyone with a statistical mind, this "+1" business does give some valuable information. It helps the reader decide what number of people support a particular view.
Yes, having someone's long opinion copied and pasted into their message does waste the reader's time in having to scroll down the page. So maybe a quick reference to the previous poster's point, followed by a "+1" would be sufficient.
To summerize, the "+1" has a purpose, it helps in the statistical analysis of public support for an opinion. |

| I am not going to join the front but I actually agree with the OP. I like to read other people's opinions on topic and a +1 just doesn't do it for me (same for lonely smileys and other non-verbal communication devices that make no sense unless there is a thread explaining what all the different symbols mean). |

I think you'll find you can't do too many kinds of statistical analysis based (at least from my experience at least) on the amount of +1's you'll see on any given thread on Dave's. At most it can be seen as a vote, nothing more, nothing less. It can't been seen as rational thought either without some kind of explanation, hence it's pure laziness at best.
Anyone using +1 must be thus banned from using Dave's by the MODS and should have their identity exposed by providing their picture, place of work and mother's maiden name written in bold in a suitable place on this website. |
