Wow. All I am used to seeing these days is "Female Only". I never thought I'd see a job only wanting a male but that's what there is.

Maybe they got a couple of western girls who were total hypochondriacs or did a few runners. Might as well give a man a chance. |

There's some kind of affirmative action in South Korea, right? |

I've seen ads for jobs where they only wanted a man. They aren't common, but they come up from time to time. Usually it's because they had a bad experience with a woman teacher so they just hire guys now. |

Start looking through the job boards. There are a fair number (though a minority) looking to hire males, kindy included. |

Saw a job teaching navy officers before in Jinhae. I think they'd be attentive; image the discipline if they screw around.
The job was pretty good, but the accommodation was on base (is it a base for navy?). |

My hogwon boss prefers men. He says men are more likely to want a day off because they are sick, have less issues about problems with the housing, etc. I disagree of course but he's' going from experience. I think he really means is that men are willing to put up with more BS. He's a good boss though. He yells a lot at the kids and hits a few of them (never yells at me) and women have an issue with it more than men he says. Also, he said they are more likely to leave due to lonliness. I'm leaving and helping him with replacements and he preferred men. He's considering one woman but its only because she'll work for less than the other candidates. |

Why any men would want to work at a kindy in Korea (which means no careerpath unlike some men who work back home in them and are treated like real workers instead of ones to dump when somebody who looks better comes along) for less than 2.6 million won wiping Korean kids' arses, cleaning up their piss because toilet training from the parents seems less effective or thorough here, watching while they scream and punch each other and run around the room is totally beyond me.
Traditionally and even now more women do those kinds of jobs. But what I said applies to the foreign women as well.
The overwhelming majority of kindy jobs for foreign men and women are just dogsbody jobs. Even when you teach kindy and other levels it's more a matter of convenience for the hagwon owner to shove all those levels in the teaching schedule of the foreigner. Don't teach any place with kindy kids for less than 2.3 milion won. Even then it's not really worth it. Imagine having 10 days or less vacation teaching them.... |
