Back home in university, I found volunteer work to be very rewarding. I did clothing drives, food packaging, and helped out at soup kitchens.
While I know volunteering should be a year round thing for all of us, we just can't always give of our time like we want to.
So, for Xmas vacation this year, since I wont be traveling but I do have some friends and family coming in, I thought it would be nice if we could spend a few days doing some volunteer work, similar to what I've done in the past. I know some places have you go way out in the country side, but given that I'll be organizing family members and my Korean isn't all that great, I think it'd be best if we could find a place in Seoul.
Is there some kind of group that organizes workers? I know some places back home just have a website with sign ups on it, that'd be great if it was here too.
So, please give any information you can. I've grown tired of the excessive "me me me, I want I want I want" that's present year round. Xmas is about giving, and there is nothing more valuable than our time. |

Sorry, I can't answer your question, but I can tell you this; if you are on an E VISA, you will have to get immigration's approval. I know people who have been busted and fined for doing volunteer work while on an E class VISA. |

It totally depends on the type of volunteering. If you are teaching, for example at an orphanage, it is best to get the approval. Immigration has said other types of volunteering don't need approval, like cleaning up an oil spill.
In reality, most people don't register for whatever they do, and Korean immigration actually asking people to register and pay the 60,000 KRW fee to improve their country is another example of the backasswardness of immigration policies. |

I have to agree. |
