| Lost 5 kg. The food at bakeries and convenience stores here is less varied and appealing so there's no longer the temptation to snack. |

I'm 5'10. When I first came here I weighed a surprisingly mere 64 kg. Now I'm at 80!!
Even 1 year ago, I was at 75kg. Age sucks!
Time to hit the gym... |

| In 96 when I came here I was about 60 kgs. When I was exercising 5-7 hours a day (late 90s early 2000s) I was as low as 57 if I wasn't having period induced water weight gain. I'm now 63. But when I got back from 3 years in the US a few months ago I was 65, and I expect to be 60 after a couple more months. |

'fatter' or 'skinnier'?
r u korean or a child? - they are the 2 of the words that get taught to korean children in english to describe every conceivable shape of human (fat, thin, skinny).
what wonderful use of all the words that you could possibly have used... |

I've gained 6 kilo, but my man actually likes it more. <<shrugs>> Looking back at pics of my farewell party, I was a bit underweight. I could still stand to drop a few, though.
Damned delicious noodles. It doesn't help that the health clubs in my area are just plain icky as well as lacking in some of my favorite machines. I've recently picked up some basic home gym equipment, though, so am hoping that that plus a 50% reduction on delicious noodles should make a difference. |

I was competing and teaching martial arts (and competing in the MTB scene). Now I only exercise around 3 hours a day. Love my life! |

| i was a vegan in canada (rarely cheated) and when i got to korea i was at about 60kg. since coming here i've been eating everything (incl meat) and my weight went up to 65, but since i noticed it, i started eating at home more. i don't really want to deal with raw meat at home, so i'm mostly making vegetarian/vegan stuff... im back to 60kg. this seems to be my standard weight and it's okay for my height. if i was a meat eater at home, i think i would have lost weight in korea. |

Hahahahahahahahahhahaha! I just laughed out loud (not at the exercising but at the waddling). Cheers for that! When I first came in 2006 I gained about 10 pounds drinking evey weekend and hitting McDonalds and Pizza Bingo waaaay too much. Luckily I got food poisening on the way home and was basically back to skinny in time to arrive in Canada
Now that I'm back I noticed that I lost 5 pounds or so in the first few weeks (something I had been trying to do at home for 6 months) eating well, laying off the sauce and jogging in the park 3 times a week. I have lapsed a bit (damn you chicken and beer) but I plan on working hard to maintain a trim figure. Since I'm a 5'10 woman I already feel "big" here, so I guess I am extra motivated to work out and regulate my calories. |

My general activity level and eating habits have improved since I arrived here, and though I have no idea if I've lost weight (I don't have a scale), my face looks less pudgy in pictures and some of my trousers are a lot looser around the waist than they used to be. I had to buy a belt! If nothing else, I feel healthier, and that's more important than weighing more or less. After all, my legs are really huge, but they're also rock solid muscle (I used to bike a lot), so I think that skews my weight and BMI results considerably.
I do find Korean food healthier overall than a lot of food I was used to getting in the US. Pizza is less greasy, toppings are heavy on veggies, more vegetables are served with meals in restaurants, even BBQ places give you piles of lettuce and other leafy veggies to wrap your meat, so you're getting at least as much veg as meat if you're doing it right. Also, the access to fresh fish is lovely. Coming from a Midwestern state, I really appreciate having fresh salmon and tuna.
It may just be a change in total lifestyle, though. I'm living on my own now (I was living with my boyfriend and roommates before), and I have more control over what groceries I buy and what food I prepare at home. It's been a pretty good experience so far. Let's hope I can continue the trend when I go home at the end of the year! |

| My cat has gained a Kilo! I wonder if she will take it off whenever we go home. She's been eating more wet food this year and is less active living in a studio. |
