Location : Sanbon-dong, Gunpo-si, Kyunggi-do
Hours : 9:30am ~ 7:00pm ( Mon. Wed. Fri.) 9:30am ~ 6:00pm ( Tue. Thurs.)
Average 6 classes/day
Salary : 2.4M~2.8 M (including National Pension)
Medical Insurance : 50% sponsored by employer
What do you guys think of this job posting? The hours seem longer than usual, but apparently it's 6 lessons/day. I wonder what you would do for the remaining 3 hours? |

Maybe the classes are really long? Or, notice how it says average?
That probably means you'll be teaching more classes than just 6. |

9:30~7:00=9.5 hours
1/2 hour for lunch.
6 classes at 80 minutes apiece +10 minute break between classes=9 hours
Some places do have 80 minute classes (Some branches of SLP for instance.)
The above COULD be a breakdown of the hours...not saying it's the case at this one...just stating a possible scenario.
Also about the salary including National Pension. Does that mean they just pay you a higher salary and opt out of the plan? |

TheUrbanMyth - That would be fairly brutal hours - 40hrs a week.
I wonder though, I think I would be able to do it and remain happy (sane). But I guess I can never know until I try. In this case however, there is no way I would would 40 teaching hours for only 2.4K.
Is there anyone on this forum doing 40 teaching hours per week? Have you retained your sanity? |

I work similar hours (and happen to live in Sanbon). While I'm at work more than I'd like to be, I only teach about twenty four hours a week (when all added up, actual teaching hours, not counting fifty minutes as an hour). It's kind of a lot, but it really flies by. |

You have no idea what you're talking about. You don't teach English in Korea. Why are you posting ? |

I used to do 40 total hours (31.25 teaching) a week and have remained sane. I made 2.4 million starting off. I took on an extra class a day making the totals hours at work 45 hours for more money and am still doing fine mentally. It does depend on the person though. For me, time flies. Going on 7 months... |

Well I don't know for sure that it is 40 teaching hours a week...I was only suggesting one of several possible situations.
Yeah 40 hours is tough. I've done it during intensive periods in my hakwon years and it was all right for a few weeks but not for a whole year. |
