At my first job I don't know why but I never payed any tax... or anything else. I saw a post that mentioned not having Korean health insurance would mean they didn't have to pay tax... guess the hagwon doesn't have to register you so you don't end up paying tax. Does anyone know if this is correct. (Still had an E2 but just not registered with the tax system.)

I should have asked my first boss but I didn't want to give him any ideas about starting to take tax out of my pay.

I get my own travel (medical only) insurance from Australia and it's only $US300 a year. I figure that if something really bad happens like a car accident and I end up in hospital for 6 months my Australian insurance company will repatriate me and I won't be left to sit in a Korean hospital eating kimchie.

So if anyone has any info about this I'd be thankful.

If you have a job, you should pay taxes. That is the law. If you school does not take out taxes they are doing something illegal. You are probably missing out on your pension too, aren't you?
