For those of you sitting on the fence between iPhone and Galaxy S read on:

She's got the iPhone, I've got the Android so comparisons can be made readily.

She hates the following:
1. It auto updated without her knowledge so the jailbreak broke.
2. She has to pay for all the good apps, which are free for Galaxy, e.g., Vlingo, Tune in Radio, Qik video, etc.
3. We only have a Korean credit card so we're locked into the Korean iTunes only.
4. The CC company charges an extra dollar every time we buy an app.
5. I whip out another battery and continue while she has to constantly be 'tethered' to the battery charger.
6. Once the update has been completed to the new iOS (4. something), none of her apps from Cydia work right.
7. She likes by bigger screen better.
8. And the straw, the real straw for her was her most favorite app in the whole world ceased to exist in her life: LUCKY 7 SLOTS. Lol...so funny.
Even tried rolling back the OS with no luck.

1. Isn't this to be expected? Read the user agreement. Nowhere does it say you are going to have a streamlined experience if you Jailbreak your phone. You're not supposed to Jailbreak it and if you do, you live with the consequences. Don't whine about it.

2. How long do you think the "good" apps will stay free on Android. Already, there are many developers who refuse to make apps for the Android platform because there is no money in it. Too many apps are stolen and pirated on torrent sites. My guess is that in the next year or two, Android apps will go full price, or will come with advertising built in. Developers need to make money to keep producing the apps. Your woman is living in some kind of Korean fantasy world if she thinks she'll get good apps for free.

3. So get another credit card or buy an iTunes gift card from Auction, or have a friend buy one and mail it to you. What's the big deal?

4. Stop using a Korean credit card. You should be smart enough to figure this out. You are getting charged for an overseas purchase. Either get a US credit card or buy an iTunes gift card. Heck, you can even give money to an American friend and let them buy a gift card for you. Again, what's the big deal here? You are living in a foreign country. There are certain hoops you are just going to have to jump through. If that's too much, pack your bags and move back home.

5. Can't argue this, but I have never depleted the battery in a day, and I am on my iPhone any time I'm not working. She must spend more time screwing with her phone than she spends actually working.

7. Get an iPhone 4. it has a bigger screen resolution than your Galaxy does

8. Apps don't disappear. It is still on her computer somewhere, unless she deleted it. It might no longer be compatible with the new iOS 4, but it is still there. If it is not compatible with the new OS, that is the developer's fault and she should contact the app's developer.

Oh. If she does decide to throw it off a bridge, let me know the time and the place and I'll be waiting below to catch it. Always good to have a back up phone.

Read it again. I didn't say the iPhone has a bigger screen. I said it has a bigger screen RESOLUTION, which it does. Check online if you doubt it.

No doubt the Galaxy has the bigger screen, but not a bigger resolution. For some, one is more important than the other. I prefer the bigger resolution for sharper detail.

The Galaxy S is a better phone for Koreans.

Mainly because Koreans do not have access to the full AppStore that Americans/Canadians do. Also, the Galaxy S has features that are common to Korean habits (like carrying an extra battery). The DMB is also something that Koreans would use a lot.

I'm usually an apple fangirl, but I'm much more impressed with my Galaxy than the iphone.

My only gripes are that there isn't a YBM English>Korean>English dictionary (by far the best one I've used, and which I've got on my ipad) and that the Skype app is crappy compared to the apple version.

I love having an extra battery. I usually go through only one a day, but it's nice to have a spare.

It was not so much a defense of the iPhone as it was a criticism of his girlfriend acting like a spoiled, 5-year-old child who doesn't like her new toy because it doesn't do things exactly the way she wants it to.

Oh wait, she's a Korean girl. Never mind. She can't help but act this way.

I was just going to mention, my gf's Galaxy S is solid with 2.2, but the HTC Sense UI on any of the new generation phones, with the Snapdragon processor, really makes Android fly.

If you don't have an HTC phone, download the trial for Launcher Pro from the market. Within an hour, you'll love your phone so much more, you'll buy the full version to get access to the admitted HTC knock-off widgets with full support. When I had the droid 1, that sped up my home screen response 10-fold, and the widgets were fantastic. Now with the Droid Incredible, I don't really need the program, with the Sense UI, though since it's paid for, I might just use it if I feel like customizing even more...

On the topic of Apps, so many of the Android Apps are free because of the easily implemented (ignorable) advertising, and most of them have a pay option if you'd like to remove the ads. Of course, you can always download most of them from torrent sites if you wish, but most people can afford the $3 for the functionality they get addicted to with the free, fully-functional ad-based versions. So you can try your cake, and then eat it too... with or without ads.

Basically, the iphone comes out with a new version so rarely that by the time one gets to Korea it's a few months behind the Android curve. The only thing that bugs me about the Galaxy S is the UI (stock Android is so much smoother), which was easily undone with Launcher Pro (think of it as a replacement, fully stable, customizable home screen).

The other thing that sucks for Koreans about Android (last time I was in the country, at least) was that the games weren't in the market because of Google telling the Korean Game Rating system to go to Helsinki, after demanding ratings for each of the thousands of games. Easily found for free on aforementioned torrent sites, but a pain in the ass nonetheless.

5. I've got a spare battery for my iphone. This is good for 2x more battery life.
6. Follow the jailbreak update. Of course updating to the official firmware is going to break apps that only work with a jailbroken phone.
