Final exams are next week, so I spent all of last week deskwarming. It's Monday on week 2 and I am climbing the walls. I can't use the English Zone because they have some kind of middle school testing and recruiting going on. I did feel fortunate about having such an easy job, but it's gotten old. I'm not even enjoying my usual time killing hobbies anymore. Who else is in this predicament?

the nastiness of my first public school job taught me to never, ever take deskwarming for granted.

at a much better public school now and have lots of deskwarming. Have been taking out lots of books from Namsan library and read them at school.

Do NOT stand for this violation of your human rights OP. Quit your job and get out of there ASAP. Get a job at McDonalds when you go home.

McDonalds are much, much less likely to do such a horrible thing as pay you for doing sweet nothing.

I can't think of another job where people would complain for being paid to sit there and do nothing.

People who whinge about 'deskwarming' have obviously never done a proper hard day's work in their life, where you have been running around like a blue arsed fly for 8-10 hours. (excluding dinner and tea breaks)

Don't like deskwarming? Move to China and work for a university where you do zero minutes deskwarming. Stay in Korea and put up with their BS - your choice - no-one is making you stay there and sign yearly contracts to work for them. Wink

Come to my school and write 126 student evaluations. Now that I'm finished with the students evaluations. I have to look over and correct 126 newspaper articles for the schools newspaper. At least I have the time now to finish at my school, instead of taking it home to finsih.

I'm well aware of how good I have it. This is my second contract in Korea. For the first one, I paid my dues and worked my behind off...but this is my reward...really?!!

It must be awful to have no ambitions.

After working a job back home where I barely had the time to eat lunch during the busy cycle, deskwarming is cake. Read a book. Work on creating a new template for a powerpoint game. Watch downloaded movies. Do yoga. Enjoy.

I'm actually looking forward to it myself. The year has been a busy cycle where I barely had enough time to eat lunch with only 45 minutes and 25 of them walking to go heat something up and eat it. We had our final exam last Friday, but finish next Tuesday and then Winter camp classes start 2 weeks from today with my vacation being 3 weeks and 5 days away. I do notice during the finals period my co-teachers seem stressed, not talking much, spending every weekend attending weddings, and just not enjoying life. We are all so ready to put the school year to a close and throttle down this busy cycle without any holidays and pauses for 3 solid months. I have no complaints here about sitting down a bit to take a breather. The kids are a million times happier now their exams are finished and looking forward to getting off the busy hurried schedule for a while. As long as you got your vacation coming with no changes made to it, it's smooth sailing through good times.

Come to you school and do what? Do you not think I haven't done what you are doing now? I hope you are not doing all this outside of your contract because you are a bit of a mug if you are. Secondly - instead of telling us how much you deserve a medal - you seemed to have missed my point is that in a lot of jobs - downtime is seen as a perk! And the luxury is afforded rarely if at all. People complaining about deskwarming in Korea should try and find a job back home where you get time to yourself to reflect on the finer things in life.

I really hope they cut EPIK and similar programs to the bone, so pompous above-it-all wankers like this can get laid off and have to go back to living in their mom's basement! It just shows that public school jobs are going downhill and are entering the crash phase EPIK programs have gone thru since 1995. It's been an up and down thing since then. Bottom line, the "Golden Days" of ESL in Korea are rapidly coming to a close.

And to the poster above and some of the others attacking the OP, I sincerely hope you lose your job soon, and have to sweat where your next job is! That will make me smile!

The "Golden Days" of Korean ESL were over in '08. Most of those that should be leaving won't, and you know this. So far so good then...
