People who whinge about 'deskwarming' have obviously never done a proper hard day's work in their life, where you have been running around like a blue arsed fly for 8-10 hours. (excluding dinner and tea breaks)

Gotta disagree with you on this one Aussie. Some of us have worked our butts off in real jobs before coming to the Land of Morning Chaos. To give just 2 examples: working a commerical fishing boat in the Gulf of Carpenteria (2 X 10 hour shifts a day), or contract veggie picking at Bundaburg (paid by weight picked in 36+deg heat). Enough said.
I'm sure you realise that PS teachers complaining about desk warming are feeling socially/professionally isolated and undervalued. After a while of deskwarming, even the most positive newbie gets the message - their classes take second fiddle to the 'real' learning, i.e., memorising meaningless nonsense to perpetuate an outdated educational philosophy and work place culture.
Anyway, as someone who desk warms a minimum of 23 hours a week during normal term, and (now) 40 hours a week during breaks - I can assure you that being paid for doing nothing isn't that great. In fact, no matter how your fill in your desk warming trying to keep your mind active, it eventually becomes mind numbingly boring and socially isolating.
Good luck. |
