|
|
After reading the thread on Dave's about donating blood I stumbled upon the Canadian Blood Services website and found that their homepage contains a link to a 'Blood Type Personality' page.
Initially I thought that it was a joke but the site contains actual references to bolster their claims that "type A's are reliable team players" etc.
They cite three books to back up their position.
* "You Are Your Blood Type, Toshitaka Nomi & Alexander Besher
* "Eat Right for Your Type, Dr. Peter DAdamo & Catherine Whitney
* "The Answer is in Your Blood Type, Steven Weissberg, MD & Joseph Christiano
CBS does say that the information is provided for users enjoyment but in the next breath they say that "Many experts believe that your personality, career and even your diet can be influenced by your blood type."
If it's a myth then it shouldn't be included at all. Why perpetuate a falsehood especially when that very issue has caused discrimination (blood type segregation in Japan). And if it's fact then support it with peer reviewed scientific studies and present it in a factual way and not for 'entertainment'.
See for yourself...

It's probably supposed to be some kind of amusing thing for people looking into their blood type. After all you can find thousands of books saying that everything from birth date to fingernail cuttings affects your personality.
They probably just don't realize that it could be considered a touchy issue related to discrimination, since it's not common in Canada (speaking as a Canadian).
Also, just as a sidenote, I just got back from donating blood. Felt great! |

Has anyone ever donated blood and you know, wanted it back? |

I am blood type A, went googling and found that the personality descriptions were surprisingly accurate. |

you can always find truth in vague generalities. Hence why Astrology survives to this day. |
