Hey, I got a job two weeks ago with a start date for the 28th of this month and been emailing the recruiter who has been still acting as the middle man between me and the school, sorting my visa, flights etc. Anyways I am just wondering how much contact will I make with the hagwon before I land in Korea. The only time I heard from them was for the phone interview. |

IF you have signed and sent the paperwork then that is all you will hear from them until the day you get to school.

when I first came over, once the docs were signed I couldn't get the recruiter on the phone at all. Not even to get my flight info - I had to call the airline to find flights in my name. It was real seat-of-the pants. You won't hear diddly from the recruiter, but if you know the name of school you might call them |

Actually this is surprising! I would think there would be more contact and for somebody this new a bit more hand-holding. I do not want to worry you but there has been times when people thought they had everything wrapped up and a school says they wanted you, to later have changed the school changed minds and not even tell the other person of the change.. Thru if the school has spent money on you aka a plane ticket you are probably fine. |

We're adults (at least by age) and you expect hand-holding? I expect people to grow up and learn how to take care of themselves. If you're not ready to do that, don't bother coming over.
OP, yes, you probably won't hear much. I would only worry if you are fronting the ticket price and they haven't said a peep. If they are paying upfront, no worries. |

Yes for somebody who has been here for a year at least I would expect more and acting like an adult. But somebody who is new I would hope a school and/or recruiter would be more helpful. I mean a recruiter who is not helpful (at the start) is pretty bad. |

Wow that sucks. I'm heading over in 2 weeks and I've been very regular communication with both my recruiter and one of the teachers at my school (he's been keeping me up to date on their search for my apartment, about what to pack..) I guess it just really depends. |

Obviously you have done the suggested thing from Dave's and been in contact with a teacher from your school, so I'm sure he/she will let you know what's what.
Oh, you've been in contact with a foreign teacher from your school, haven't you? HAVEN'T YOU?

When Koreans decide to get into something, they get into it 110%. If they travel overseas, you can bet they've done they're homework on what to do, how to do it and what to wear while doing it. They'll be amazed to find you didn't do any homework and would not think of holding your hand.
Hand holding comes later, like when you go out for a social evening and the men (if you are a man) want to hold your hand. But that's different. If you're a woman, they might want to hold your hand, too. But then, that's different, too. |

+1
I think that people would have far fewer problems if they contacted a current and former teacher from their future employer. |
