|
|
Want to avoid the insane crush at immi during late Feb. if at all possible. If I have all my docs, how far in advance can I get my E-2 visa transferred? (with letter of release from my current school, etc.)
I was hoping to do this in January, but immi doesn't seem to understand my question when I called. I was told by my new principal that it could be done up to 2 months before your current visa expires. Is this true?
Anyone have any experience with this? |

Changing jobs the transfer has to happen (very) close to or at the end of one contract and just before the 2nd begins (since you transfer your sponsorship).
For a simple renewal at the same employer the usual time frame is any time during the last 60 days of your contract.

I was just handed an updated E2 info sheet by my employer that said you must completed 9 months with one employer before you can be eligible to transfer the visa to another employer. Sorry I don't have an online source for it. |

Your post is only 1/2 correct.
You must work for some hagwan with a shite owner who is handing out information to keep his staff from heading for a better offer or worse, be a hagwan owner/director/head of teachers.

I did it last year. It's 2 weeks before the end of your contract (both schools were private elementary schools). They actually updated my visa, but wouldn't do it for my coworker switching between the same two schools. So she asked why they did mine and not hers and then they cancelled mine and told me to come back when there was two weeks left. |

I think the rules have changed to 6 months. I was going to do this back in March. Have the school contact immigration directly to find out. |

Classic Korean move!! They give with one hand and take away with the other! But thanks lisa! I have exactly the same situation - private school to private school.
tompatz, thanks again for your input. You always seem to be spot on, so I will take your word as (near) gospel. |

It's 6 months. If the school is going out of business then there is no minimum limit. If there are other extreme circumstances you can sometimes (read "rarely") convince immigration to do it in less than 6 months, but don't count on it.
If you call immigration, they'll tell you exactly when you can start the transfer procedure (e.g. 2 weeks before finishing the current job). The new job has to be started no more than 2 week AFTER the current job finishes (as indicated on your LOR). That I know because I asked immigration about it a few months ago. |
