I landed a round-trip,holiday season ticket for $340 through whypaymore.co.kr by being patient and waiting for seats to become available. And of course some help from a Korean coworker.

There is usually a KTX-Beetle-Shinkansen ticket for a good deal. |

There was a decent korean site I used, called nexttour a couple times. But unfortunately they seem to have overhauled the site. It had special prices to some japanese cities sometimes.
apparently they've changed to webtour.com but I don't see any fantastic prices right now. |

Busan to Shimonoseki on an overnight ferry is less than 100,000. But then you need to high speed train it to Tokyo. That will still be less than 500,000, however. |

Go to the Department of Foreign Affairs in Korea, and tell them you want to do a one man "Dokdo is Korean" protest outside the Royal Palace.
They'll fly you there for free! |

I've been reasearching this and the cheapest it seems is to just fly to tokyo.
You can get to fukouka or osaka via ferry. then take a train or bus to tokyo. but then you'd have to take a train or bus back to fukouka or osaka to get on the ferry to get back home. plus the cost of the KTX tickets to busan if you live in Seoul. and the won to yen is terrible so...
seems like a huge hassle. but if you are planning a long trip, it might be fun to visit the other places for a bit |

Depends on how long the trip is. If you have 10 days or so take the overnight ferry from busan. If only a week just suck it up and fly- its expensive but if there were other, much cheaper options then the flights would come down in price. I flew for like 350 two years ago. I also took the beetle to Fukouka which was cool and a bit cheaper. But i also spend my week in the south rather than paying 250 bucks to get to tokyo. |
