Is there a best?
It's been incredibly dumbed-down in recent years. The only kind of thing I learn from Discovery Channel these days is that crab fishing is tough work.
I suppose How It's Made has a little more value than the reality-type programming or 'fun-doc' usually on. |

I didnt vote because of that reason. You need an I stopped watching Discovery Channel a few years ago option.
And what ever happened to the Discovery Channel store, I used to love those ecospheres, although my ecosystems would always collapse and die. Usually due to over population, those little shrimp didnt know when to stop reproducing. |

It's not an option but something like a year ago they had a show called "Alaska Experiment," it was about groups of people that were thrown in the wild in Alaska and had to live off the land. They were given some food, a gun, and a basic shelter and had to survive.
It was new at the time and I was gitting tired of the American Chopper so I hauled ass home every tuesday night after work to watch it.
Has anybody else seen that show? Other than that I like "the Colony."
I'm also getting kinda tired of the crab shows and motorcycle shows. |

Ummm.... Man vs. Wild
Bear Grylls is awesome. I mean come on, the man drank liquid elephant poo in Africa and then gave himself an enema while stranded at sea. What part of that doesn't make for good television?
Plus, you'll need to know all those survival techniques as you trek South when the Northern Kims finally decide to let the poop hit the fan. |

How it's made is a good program. Mythbusters can be fun. I personally can't stand programs about sharks, and their reality show has been horrible since the original Scrapyard challenge. I like World war 2 programs, but it is just so much you can watch them before they start to get repetitive. |

Crab fishing was interesting when it was a 1-part documentary. The first few episodes of deadliest catch were mildly amusing. Then it became apparent it was just the same thing over and over. |

WW2, of course. It's nice to have a bit of history amongst all those reality shows. |

I like the new crop of survival shows.
Man Woman wild.
The Alaska Experiment.
Dual Survival
Sometimes you'll get lucky and they will show Les Shroud's survivorman.
But I have to take a minute here and talk about Bear Grylls. DO NOT FOLLOW ANY OF THE ADVICE HE GIVES.
I have been to several survival classes. Including a 6 month wilderness stay in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. So I know what i am talking about. Each week is him doing some stupid stunt for the amusement of 15 year old fanboys. If you ever find yourself alone in the wilderness and try one of the stunts he demonstrates. You're going to find yourself dead. |

Because a show that's faked doesn't deserve to be a contender. |
