Quoted as the argument is still rumbling on. Seoulio (sorry, superNET) will just keep on arguing. Don't waste your time TUM and OO.

You are wrong on all accounts. I am done with this argument and feel that I was and am as correct as OO was and is. If TUM and OO can't admit to it then they are much lesser men.

If anyone tries to scam their employer out of more money than they deserve or nickel and dime them to death, then they are just typical westerners--greedy and only here for the money.

400 000W (give or take) is a lot of nickels and dimes. You prob could kill someone with that much weight depending on how hard you swung it. Hopefully, the employer has enough sense to get out of the way. It would be their own fault for not doing what they are supposed to do and then dying because of it.

It's not a scam if it's legally yours, and the law seems to say that it is. It's a scam for employers to try to get away with not paying it.

Housing is part of our salary. I get my apartment for the work that I do.

Does anyone know where I can find a Korean version of this rule so that I can show it to my director?

This whole situation is very tricky to say the least. Yes it is a bit of a scam for the employer to not give you a severance which includes both housing and salary combined. The thing is they get around this by not taking taxes from the housing allowance. But the Korean government doesn't care and at the end of they year you will have to pay taxes on the housing allowance. So in fact it should be part of your severace pay (both salary and housing stipend) but it has never happened this way and you can fight till you are blue in the teeth and it's never going to happen. So accept the salary base as your severance and keep on living. Smile

What have your experiences been?
I thought it was supposed to be the amount you have been getitng paid
each month from the previous year.

My experience is that schools get out of paying severance. GEPIK only helps them. Did you start teaching on the first day of your contract? If not, your school doesn't have to pay. Many schools delay the first teaching day until after this date to screw you. Thanks GEPIK for helping the schools (courtesy of insider info.).
