Cats are cool, too, though.

Rubbish. Dogs are a totally selfish pet for selfish people. They crap everywhere, maul children, jump on people and create non-stop noise; how many problems between neighbours are caused by dogs? can you say the same about the humble gerbil, frilled neck lizard or goldfish?

Yeah I hate my neighbors and their small yappy dog. I don't even think small yappy dogs should be considered dogs.

My neighbors get drunk a lot. The lady croons "oppa, oppa" to which he tells her to shut up, then they both insult each other in Korean and one of them storms out.

Now, I think the usual behavior of dogs when someone in their family is yelling (around or at them) is to lay down and be quiet.

What does rat dog do?

Join in and start barking.

At least 2 times a week.

so Kurtz is right. A selfish, stupid animal for selfish, stupid people - at least those small yappy rats. Real dogs are OK.

My dog wasn't much of a barker until he went senile in old age, and then it was only when I took him outside for a run or gave him a treat. He'd run around the treat and bark "I'm gonna eat you!" for a few minutes before eating it. He didn't crap anywhere except the allotted space in the backyard (which I cleaned up daily) and when we went for walks (and I always had baggies for clean up). Badly trained dogs DO maul people (not only children). My sister was mauled seriously by a dog, and had to undergo a lot of reconstructive surgery. That doesn't change the fact that a well-trained dog can be a very satisfying and beloved member of the family.

Hamsters, rabbits, and other rodents are boring. If you're going to go the rodent route, I recommend the rat. They love interaction, petting, and games. They're clever devils, though. One of mine discovered a way to escape from his old cage and I woke up one morning to find the new nest he'd designed (including a hand towel, part of a house plant, a Jeju Island statuette, and some chewed up wires) at the other end of the room. He scampered up to me to say hi then bounced back to enjoy his creation. It was a fun morning cleaning that up. His new cage is much bigger with a better-locking door Laughing

Dogs are idiots. I mean, what would you do if I came up to you sniffing your behind and slobbering all over your face?

I will completely disagree with this sentiment as it is one-sided and ignores all the benefits a dog brings with it.

The only benefits are to the owners, everyone just suffers.

I was being kind to your distorted view of dogs.

they do NOT: crap everywhere, maul children, jump on people or make non-stop noise. They all have their personalities, just like people do, and they need training, just like people do. Maybe you hate dogs because you really hate yourself...ha.

My neighbors loved my dog. He was a sweetie. He was a bit of a mama's boy, but he was the runt of the litter.

I'll take them all cats, dogs. I try to befriend the homeless cats here, but they're all too scared. I am still pondering whether or not to steal a dog- friend that spends her life on a chain, and whisk her off to another country. I would probably become a fugitive here for kidnapping a neglected chain link dog, though.

Is this the best dog ever?

Kurtz has a point.

I had a neighbor who had a German Shepherd and stupid me one day I accidentally looked it in the eye. From that point on, every single time it saw me/smelled me, it would start barking and trying to get off the leash, probably so that it could maul me.

The simple act of walking to my house became all about me fearing for my life... and I was furious.

There are some dogs with great personalities-- I grew up with a dog. But being barked at/charged really sucks...
