Anyone interested in working at this establishment should first PM me. I have some info but I'd rather not share it out in the open...

Considering they're the place that advertised itself as some kind of elite hagwon and then eagerly told a woman I know to apply for the job after she deliberately sent an email with basic grammatical mistakes to see if they'd pick it up Rolling Eyes , I wouldn't be surprised to find they're not what they say they are.

The only good thing about that place is they're situated in Mapo Gu. Great for somebody who wants to live in Seoul if you can put up with 10 days vacation total. Personally as I've made clear, I think those who go for hagwon jobs that give 10 days vacation and the usual rubbishy conditions are not only hurting themselves - they're doing every native speaker teaching English in Korea a disservice.

I understand why newbies are desperate to work in Korea but just don't go for those conditions including low pay for all the hours and stress. If more of you refuse to say how high and jump for terrible jobs, then the terrible jobs will have to improve their conditions because nobody will want to touch them.

And OP, let us know a bit about what you know... Smile And I'd like to know what's wrong with the 'secure' job in Mokdong that's being advertised again on craigslist. Claims to be a new school that gives you good breaks between class but has no information whatsoever on what level of students you will be teaching, what vacation is given, if pension is paid etc.

A school that refuses to disclose that information in its ad is sus. It tells you to line up an interview but it sounds like the kind where you go and then are stuck with all the other applicants and you have to do an off the cuff lesson etc. As this employer won't even give you the courtesy of basic information, I'd say they can go and boil their heads.

Well, I'd like some info. Can you pm me because you're obviously not going to discuss it on the forum.

I read something else you wrote about a somewhat creepy boss' son when you said you were single. Is it to do with that kind of thing - I gather you're a female. Sexual harassment of foreign woment teachers in Korea is by no means unusual. I know first-hand from a woman who was pestered by the male English co ordinator (age around 51) at her public school to go out with him and a friend on the weekends for free English discussion.

She just made excuse after excuse and then he kept suggesting she change her appearance, lose weight, etc. She thought if she had been stupid enough to go out with him and his friend it would probably lead to demands for weekend meetings just with him. Cool lady, handled it the right way but he started becoming nasty towards her at school, starting conflicts, yelling at her privately in the English room. This went on for a while and he made trouble for her. Guess what? She didn't get renewed.

I would have tried to think of some way to help if I had lived in her province but she lived in a backwater. Another reason why I don't recommend living anywhere but Seoul or another of the major cities - Daejon, Daegu, Busan.
