|
|
Heya,
About a year ago, I bought an HP Compaq Presario CQ35 laptop. I've never been the smartest at making computer purchases and this proved to be no exception. While the Dual Core 2.6 is nice and fast, the graphics card (GeForce 105M) is a piece of poo.
A mate mentioned that it might be possible to get the graphics card upgraded...I don't know anything about computers really, so any ideas where I could go to have this done and how much it might cost?
Also, this laptop model seems to have a habit of overheating and turning itself off - some problem with the fan or heatsink inside. Would I be able to get that sorted at the same time? I'd imagine a better graphics card would result in more heat...even if I can't get a new graphics card in this thing, I need to get that fixed.
I know most of these questions could probably be answered at Yongsan but I don't want to waste my time going there if it can't be done. Also, for once, I'd like to go armed with some information.
Thanks muchly. |

IF I am not mistaken it does NOT have a separate graphics card but the graphics output is integrated into the mobo and thus can't be changed.
You can fix the heat problem by:
a) get a cooling pad (10k won at Yongsan)
b) get your local laptop repair guy to open the case and clean the dust out of the vents (blow it OUT of the computer and NOT into the computer) and clean the CPU heatsink.

Yeah I had the overheating problem before and I just used a vacuum to suck out the dust.
If your graphics card is onboard then forget it. If it isn't then you might be able to change it, but if you open a notebook you void the warranty. Just buy a new one.
In my opinion though a gaming notebook is an oxymoron. Notebook are intended to be compact and lightweight. More often than not a notebook with a good graphics card is going to be very expensive and large. Just get desktop. It will be cheaper. |

Yeah, cheers guys...I had originally thought the whole thing was integrated so couldn't be upgraded but got my hopes up. Considering the rest of the computer is decent, a better graphics card would make the difference.
Not really wanting to use this as a proper gaming beast or anything...just wanted to make it good enough for a couple of MMORPGs coming up...especially Old Republic.
Don't like using desktops these days just because of the setup of my home. I like to sit on the sofa and use my computer while watching TV. If I end up with my TV in a room big enough to have a desk, then I can think about desktops...they're much easier to upgrade! |
