These are some smart people we're talking about and they will build new stores in exactly the right area.

For them to make money.

I would like to see Costco do what Wal Mart did a few years back--leave the country. Their overpriced goods are not worth the money nor the time to get to a store. The one in Daejeon has its parking entrance located in such a way that the cars lining up to go in become a danger to other traffic. You have to be first in line to be safe.

I know you try to sound smart and original, but most of the time you just sound dumb.

It's too expensive but you must go there for the prices?

First off, you distorted what I said. Second, off have you compared prices for those 3 items? Korean stores are much more expensive on them than Costco is. Third, you, like the following quoted person, need to stop assuming and leaping to conclusions:

What legal problems?

Then why are you complaining about Costco's prices?

I know exactly where the one is being made in Yongin. It opens August 2011. It is being built right now in the Giheung area (near the Giheung exit on the #1 expressway). I live in the Bora area (near the historical folk village) and it is about 5 minutes from there. It'll be perfect for people in the Youngtong, Dongtan, and Yongin areas.

Is it close to the new subway line that's supposed to open soon?

Well, the subway is in those areas mentioned, but there isn't one being made within walking distance to the Costco, no.

Judging by the crowds at Costco on Friday and Saturday, the store is as popular as ever, even with the early opening for Christmas shoppers. They could open 3-4 more just in Gyeonggi-do and incheon and still have plenty of business.

but seeing how they are owned by the same parent company. I doubt they would put themselves in competition like that.

I don't think that Costco in Korea is operating under any parent company. Where did you get that information? As far as I know, the only company that Costco Korea reports to is Costco, Inc. in the US.

Are they tied in some legal way to Samsung since they have that exclusivity deal with the Samsung credit card?

I don't know for certain, but I suspect it is like their deal with American Express in the US. By dealing exclusively with one credit card company, they get better rates with the company. Usually, a credit card company charges the merchant somewhere between 2-3 percent, but with exclusivity contracts a big retailer can significantly lower that percentage. I assumed that the deal with Samsung was something along those lines, rather than something that allowed Costco to operate in Korea.

There is a rumour that Ulsan is getting a Costco, but I haven't seen any signs or indications that it is anything more than rumours.

As it is now, the Busan store is only 40 minutes from Ulsan.

I'd say give it to Gwangju,,,to my knowledge there's not one close to that area.

Also, north Seoul,,,Uijeunbu, would benefit since those folk travel quite far to the nearest branch.

At Costco in Daegu I can get about a bag of Kirkland(Costco) brand chicken breast that are twice the size of the ones I find in E-mart or Daebeak mart for about 25,000 a bag. Yea it's more expensive than back home but they don't cook down and last us a month. We eat alot of chicken. I think that's a pretty good price.
