|
|
Hi folks,
Can I get money out of ATMs in Korea with an AIB laser card? Just want to know if I should bring all cash or withdraw on landing. Is there a hefty charge if you withdraw there ?
Thanks. |

You CAN find international ATM machines.
They are often found in convenience stores and subway stations.
MOST Korean ATMs are not international
MOST Korean banks do NOT have an international ATM machine.
(KEB branches are your most likely place to look for an international machine INSIDE a bank).
There ARE some pretty large fees (compared as a percentage to permitted withdrawals).
IF you are coming to Korea your best bet is to just bring cash with you. It'll probably be less than 1000 Euros so really isn't that much cash (10 notes).
Exchange about 1/2 of it when you land at ICN (use the currency exchance INSIDE the secure zone (just before you go out of the glass doors into the public areas of the arrivals floor). The rates are the same as you pay in the city and MUCH BETTER than you will get trying to buy won from outside of Korea.

I`m a Brit and for me it`s been very hit and miss with most banks (even those with Global ATM`s...I have visa/mastercard btw). KEB though are generally the best in my experience......I would expect you to encounter less problems though if you withdraw from an ATM in the airport.
The ATM`s in convenience stores are not too bad also but you have to be able to read Korean(!).
Be aware though there is a daily limit on the amount you can withdraw also....sometimes less than your bank`s limit back home.
PS: Laser and Link are not known over here unlike back home. Maestro is used at some banks` ATMs off the top of my head. |

E1000 each? Yea that's more than enough I would say. I found the ATMs in the convenience stores to be more reliable than the ATMs by the banks. That was with my Bank of Ireland Cirrus/Laser. I don't know what the charges for that are though.
Also, if you exchange all, or even half that amount you're going to have one huge pile of notes. Just to warn you.
You will definitely find an ATM that works but it might take some searching. |

Thanks for the tips. If BOI card works I'd assume that AIB will work too . . . could be a risky move though !
Ya we're hoping a 1000e each will be enough. We won't be living in Seoul so hopefully that means that the money will go further . . . right ? |

Absolutely. You should have no bills to pay the first month either. It would be a struggle to spend that much money. |
