really interested but read quite a few reviews about sound issues. Have you experienced any off-sync sound with mkv files? or had any files simply not have sound at all? [/quote] |

maybe with the official firmware people would get that problem
But, im using a much more advanced firmware written by a true enthusiast.
This is what allows it to play 1080p mkv files. The stock machine doesnt have the codec for it.
Anyway, the only problem i ever had was with a 1080p version of killers. It stuttered a lot. Thought the problem was with the WDTV, so i tried the file on my overly powerful imac and turns out the mkv timecode was encoded wrong by the uploader.
Phew!
So, in summary. No problems that ive ever experienced caused by the unit itself. It can play anything my imac can. |

Can you explain what this actually is? How is this different from a regular external drive? |

got cheaper. Just sitting in my drawer cos i spent a ton on an HTPC instead
By the way, this doesnt contain a hard drive. You need to plug in your source from usb.
This means the main unit is tiny and also infinitely upgradable |

It also functions quite well as a media streaming device if you connect it to your router/switch via ethernet cable. It doesn't have built-in wireless, but a lot of those $10-$20 wireless N USB adapters can turn it into a wirelessly streaming media beast (not all wireless USB adapters are compatible, so be careful which one you buy). |
