Hey guys- I was just wondering if any of you are in Bucheon and if so, how do you like it? Is it a nice area and does it feel like you are v lose to Seoul? I want to be in an area which has lots of amenities (not rural!!!) but also super close to Seoul. Is there a gym/supermarket/restaurants/pubs etc and a good energy around the place? Are there many young people and foreigers? Would it be considered an affluent suburb?
Any feedback would be really wondeful! Thanks a million  |

| Not a bad place. Close to the busiest part of Incheon and a handful of stops away from Seoul. You could do a lot worse. It depends on how close you live to the subway though. |

I've lived in Bucheon for the past 2 years, I like it quite a bit. There is a pretty big foreigner population and its only 40 minutes to an hour by subway to Seoul, depending on where you want to go. There are 2 good foreigner bars as well as a lot of good restaurants. Living by the Hyundai Department Store is the most central location. There are a few good parks. I recommend it!
Yes, it is considered an affluent suburb. It boasts about 800,000 people living in the city. There is very little that you can't get here that you can get in Seoul. |

| Bucheon is by far the best city in Korea that I've lived in. It has all the amenities of a city, but without the crowded and dirty streets. Lots of green areas and bike paths too. Another minor bonus is that it's not as spread out as Seoul. If something is going on in Bucheon, the downtown isn't so big so you likely know where stuff is happening. It's a bit cheaper than Seoul, but only an hour away by subway from Itaewon or Shinchon if you want to pop in for some event on the weekend or to check out the touristy sites. If I had the choice between Seoul and Bucheon, I'd take Bucheon any day. |

I've lived in Bucheon for about ten months now and would say on the whole it's a pretty nice place to live. Seoul is a giant city so being "close to seoul" is a relative term. Bucheon is fairly close to Hongdae/Shinchon/Yeouido (25-40 mins by bus or train) but an hour and half or more to say Itaewon or Olympic park. Other cities will put you closer to certain sections of Seoul but over all it's not a bad place to be. Plus it's right next to incheon and the airport so traveling to other countries is definitely less of an hassle. It's far from rural so put that worry to rest, the only real difference between Seoul, Bucheon and Incheon is the name. I can walk to "Incheon" from my house, and my friend lives only one bus stop from "Seoul," as in when we walk down the street and we're seoul.
The one thing Bucheon is lacking (besides a costco) is more green space. We have a couple of parks and walking paths but for someone who grew up in Colorado I felt like i would go insane the first couple of months. Bucheon like most of the cities close to seoul is basically a concrete jungle (though Ilsan has an amazing park that I covet everytime i think about it and might be a good option as it's just as close to seoul as Bucheon and it has a costco ^^). There are tons of supermarkets both big (E-mart, Homeplus) and small (all the small family supermarts) plus a lot of outdoor markets (Jungdong market is a favorite), restaurants and bars are a dime a dozen, and there are two really good foreigner bars here (Rythmn and Booze and the Park) as well as Cafe Nicolia a european style cafe/bistro. The night life isn't the greatest but if you just want to hang out and not go crazy it's fine and if not, Hongdae (Seoul's party central) is just a 30 min bus ride away.
There are TONS of foreigners here and if you feel you're lacking in the foreigness just head on over to those bars mentioned before. Though I do think the foreigners here tend to be a bit cliquey. The foreigner community as a whole isn't very close or very helpful  but maybe that's because there are a lot of people who resign and are set in their ways >_<... but if you take the job and need any help or someone to hang out with. | Bucheon is the best place if you want to be close to Seoul. If you are looking for open space for walking around, you might as well go further out (1-2 hours from Seoul). |
