here is the website. I'm pretty sure the number 5 box is the biggest you can ship anywhere overseas but I could be wrong.

If you have enough stuff, contact a shipper.

I sent everything home surface in #5 boxes. It was about 30,000 won for 20 kilos. They arrived in between one and two months. They will be banged up, so tape well!

excuse my ignorance, but by 'a shipper' what kind of company do you mean? does this include the regulars(fedex, dhl...etc.) or are you talking about a seperate company?

if so, could you give me some examples? I have done enough googling of international shipping and come up with no real good options. Realistically I just want to be able to get my suitcases home. I'm backpacking for a couple months in SE Asia so i can't really take them with me.

Any specific ideas? Thanks and good wishes!

I haven't done this in 14 years. You can call a shipping company, I think the one I used was called Hyundai Shipping. They gave a flat rate for one cubic meter, my door in Korea to the port in the US. Back then it was around 400,000 won. I packed things up into suitcases and boxes and they took them away and later put them in a small crate. Hopefully someone else can provide current contact information for such a company.

There's a number 6 box at the post office, but it's not on general display like the others. Looks like I can send all my spare stuff home for about 100,000 Won.

You cannot always ship the #6 box overseas. They may sell it to you but then refuse to ship it.

Apparently the number 6 box isn't accepted in the USA, but it's good for other countries. Best to check when you get there though, my friend found out after she had packed everything...

A couple tips from someone who has sent boxes by surface with the Korean postal service. Firstly, send them all at the same time to save money on shipping. I dunno why, but it works out well that way.

Second tip, buy bags that vacuum-seal from Emart. If you don't, your clothes will get a horrible boxy/mold/mildew smell that never goes away, no matter how many times you wash, dry, or dry clean them. Those boxes may get lots of moisture since they are out at sea quite a bit...

All my stuff has always safely arrived within 6-8 weeks in good shape. The boxes have had a couple holes punctured into them, so make sure to tape them up well.

Be careful of the 'value' you put down for them. By putting the actual value, you may pay import fees when it reaches Canada or the USA. If you put zero dollars as the value, you won't pay any import.

Good luck!

no you have to put ur crap inside the number 5 box that they have if you are sending it to north america.

Length must be less than 1.05 meters.
girth plus length must be less than 2 meters.

According to the formula I found the maximum volume is 33.33 cm by 33.33 cm by 66.66 cm.

Question: Someone working at a post office told me recently (December 2010) that the #5 box could not be shipped to the US, that the largest one I could send there was the #3.

Was that misinformation, or have the rules changed since you posted yours - any of you?

I heard the same thing. Only box 6 can't go abroad. Box 5 is still good. That was a couple weeks ago.
