I am set to re-sign with my current Hagwon.
In order to extend my visa my boss told me that I have to get a copy of my degree apostilled for immigration.
Is this true?
If so, how do I go about this?
Make a photocopy, send to my university, get them to stamp it, then what?
Thanks |
Air-mail it to your parents and have them bring it to the Department of State office (providing you're from the US). The apostille will cost about $5 to process. Then ask them to send it back to you. It would be a big favor, but it could save you a couple thousand dollars in flight costs. Good luck! |

There are mail-in options. Slower, but saves a trip. |

If you don't have friends or famly back home that can do the notary for you, you could have the notary done at the embassy and send it to the office in your state for the apostille. Heres a link that has the location of the offices for each state that provide apostilles:
http://www.apostilleinfo.com/usa.htm
Although, having it done at the embassy may make it "federal" so you might have to send it to the Dept of State instead:
U.S. Dept of State Authentications Office
518 23rd St NW
SA1 Columbia Plaza
Washington, DC 20520
15 day turn-around time for mailed in documents.
Fee: $8 per document- check or money order to US Dept of State. Credit cards can only be used for walk-ins. |

Really? If it's true that the US Embassy in Seoul notarizes degrees and that will be accepted for an apostille in the D.C. Secretary of State's Office, then this process will be so much easier than I thought! |

No, the embassy does not notarize degrees. You give them a copy of your degree, fill out an affadavit form that says you swear this is a real copy of a real degree, etc., then they notarize this paper and attach it to your degree copy...then off you send it to the DOS...^^ |

| UPDATE on US Embassy and degrees...I was just there on Friday, and hey will NOT notarize an affadavit on your degree copy. But they will notarize an affadavit for your FBI CBC, for those of you who forgot to ask the FBI to do so, OR in my case, you asked them to do so and they still didn't. Oh hahaha. A 60,000 won hahaha... |
