Do you think people that ask a quesion are stupid? |
Yes, they asked a question. They must not know anything about the subject. |

Because I read the question, that means it's directed at me, and because they are asking it, then I must know more than them. |

They know something, but clearly I know more than them, why else would they be asking for my help? |

Ok, maybe they did there homework and are just asking for an opinion. |

So, I'm curious, about what people think of posters that ask us questions in a thread.
If someone posts a question, do you think they are automatically stupid?
Anything else?
Please note the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors in the poll, and see how that reflects your voting. |

My answer is no, because of the Dunning-Kruger effect. That is defined as the generalization that "ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.
Here are some examples:
▶ What sort of advice do we usually hear from the worst teachers? "Just show them who's boss and make them mind. That's all there is to it!"
▶ Nearly every scholarly journal article ends with a plea for further research.
▶ Have you ever travelled overseas with a bunch of whiny tourists who don't even know the language of the host country, much less anything about the culture of the host country? Such tourists are usually the most judgmental about the host country.
Yet a well-trained anthropologist would never think of making judgmental statements about another culture.
▶ Even top scientists can get fooled. Before high power microscopes were available, even the top scientists thought that there was nothing inside insects but goo. Now that high power microscopes are available, they realize that the study of insects is very complicated.
▶ In the late Fourteenth Century, the atom was given its name, which in Greek means "undivided." Now we know that atoms are anything but indivisible.
▶ For that matter, just look within yourself. Think of a subject which you know a lot about and a subject which you know very little about. Then make a list of questions which you would ask in either subject.
Betcha you can think of more questions in the subject which you know a lot about. That's certainly true in my case. I could ask dozens of questions about music, but I couldn't ask a single question about mechanical drawing. |

As for me, all I know is that I know nothing.
Socrates
Nope. What's more annoying is posters who THINK they know everything. |

Generally no, but it gets a bit tired when people start threads asking about CDI or North Korea when there are already ten active threads on the subject. I realize that the search function doesn't really work, but people need to learn how to use Control+F a bit more. |

I am saying no, because of what Tomato said.
But also because it's pretty obvious. Do only stupid people ask questions? Did stupid people discover gravity and the graviton? Did stupid people realise we are descended from a common ancestor with apes?
Did stupid people ask about the sky, to get a star fall down with a message attached saying 'you revolve around the sun, actually'?
I can't really see how anybody could answer yes to this and be honest. If you ask and don't learn from the answer, ever, then yes.
It's... *quite* unlikely that someone with closed eyes and ears could end up smarter after 30 years than someone with open eyes and ears.
But what do I know eh? Nothing, according to Socrates. |

Ugh. Imagine this forum if *nobody* asked questions. It would be nothing but statements! |

Grape and Purple are two totally different things my friend.
Welch's or Smucker's is grape. Kool-Aid or or those frozen Ice sticks is purple. |
