No problem with using movies - but normal a 10 minute segment is more than sufficient to show the cultural point you are looking at.
personally i like language games - ok its not perfect but at least they are using language and not just falling asleep of starring at the subtitles. |

I prefer silly language games to movies, unless if I want the kids to sleep. I guess they need sleep.
I remember when my French teacher had us watch Batman in French. I don't know why he did, normally he was a good teacher. I guess good teachers need a break, too. (I just remember it was sleepfest, and not understanding anything besides "Je suis Batman") |

Middle school kids love Mars Attacks. Especially when those alien heads blow up because of the country music.
Anyways the only time I show movies are in the last week of classes in July and in December, when tests are finished. Unless it's some emergency and some teacher needs me to fill in for them, even though the class wasn't supposed to have english during that period, which has happened to me 3 times in 6 years. |

Same here--I only play a movie the last week of class after their finals. Not even after their midterms. Their grades are locked in, and they know it. Plus, many of my students are preparing for the winter festival, so some of them are not in the class anyway. |
