| Korea has far more going for it at the moment than many countries in the west as they still wholly control their ship building, car manufacture, tech. components industries etc. Compare that to the US and other countries UK, P.I.G.S. who are struggling. Korea's GDP can afford EPIK programs. |
If that were true, we wouldn't be hearing stories of cutbacks and westerners losing their jobs.

| However, the point is that schools CAN hire teachers on their own and pay for them if they want. |
It is not that simple. It would depend upon their budget, which they get from the federal government, . It would depend upon their priorities, what needs fixing or updating at the school. It depends upon what construction projects they have going on.
There is only so much money to go around and it all comes from the Federal government. Since they are doing other programs now, don't expect to see a lot of money thrown at schools like it was in the past. |
Schools/POEs can jettison teachers for many reasons often-times it's due to either not liking/misunderstanding the NET as not trying hard enough to understand Korean culture. |

Heard a rumor that the Korean government will from 2012 no longer put foreign teachers are government schools? So no more EPIK AND GEPIK ETC...
A waste of time, as the kids dont learn, due to the large numbers in the classes....
Any truth behind this? |
Parents are the power here. As long as they want us, some of us will be here. Those of us that have been around for a while know this. Korea doesn't want qualified teachers, they want brainless lackeys that will work themselves to death and willingly suffer immense verbal abuse. Why do you think that most leave here within a year (besides being screwed)? If they do shut down and never hire foreign teachers again, then this will be a really great thing. We should party. |

Hehe not "understainding Korean culture" also means not accepting the racist and inaccurate views they hold towards your race. Hehe. Good luck. |
