|
|
Any advice for a tech-moron on how to do this? I have a new Macbook, and a pretty new-looking (Korean) TV. I've been told there might be a wire or some sort of device I could buy for making it so that whatever is on my laptop screen is transferred to my television screen. Sounds great for movies and such.
Can anyone give me the lowdown on how/whether this works?? Or even know where to buy/install one? |

Does your macbook have a HDMI out port? Does your TV have HDMI in? Or S-Video?
If so all you need is a single cable which can be found relatively cheap. |

Uh oh.
Um... not sure if my Macbook has one of those ports. It's new and I think Macbooks are pretty hi-tech... but I'm not sure. I don't see any port that says HDMI or anything, though I see a few that are not for the internet nor for a USB or whatever.
My TV... I've been away for a while and seem to have forgotten how to read Korean, but it does have a port for 'S- something.' By 'something' I mean it is written in Korean. It is right next to the other ports where you plug in the DVD player and whatnot. Hopefully that's promising.
Any thoughts? Oh, and thanks for responding. |

Dang. Don't seem to see any SVideo port on my Macbook. Does that mean it's not possible? |

It's leaning that way. I doubt your TV has any computer monitor ports, and i don't know if your laptop has any extra monitor outs either. That would be the last thing i can think of, and it sounds like it could be a long shot. |

Man... I'm beginning to think Macs are seriously overrated. It seems like it can accommodate half the hardware I usually use. |

Appreciate your help, but my Macbook doesn't seem to have one of those mini-dvi ports. Alack. |

Not really. My Macbook has two USB ports, an internet cable port, headphones, and one very small port that I attach my camera to.
Blah. |

you have a mini display port:
http://www.apple.com/uk/macbook/features.html
are we talking a flat screen LCD TV or a Cathode Ray Tube tv?
pretty sure you'll get a mini display port to something an LCd tv will take with ease, it'll just cost more than a cheap VGA cable solution. You need to get an audio cable too unless you have external speakers? |

I have a Samsung TV. It's not a flat screen, but it's very big. Not sure where that leaves me... ha, I'm so helpless! |

What you need is a mini display port to ****** adapter.
******* = whatever type of plugin your tv utilizes.
HDMI or DVI is usually the case.
What makes macs unique can make it difficult to adapt to other products.
You can buy the adapter online.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IF5YLQ link for mini display to dvi
I think (not sure) that even with the mini display port to hdmi adapter, sound may not come out.Again not sure but did read it somewhere.
Just a way of Apple to make more money out of you... But you can bypass it by buying generic on eBay or a site that is similar |

If you have a new Macbook as you claim, then it is impossible for your Macbook not to have a mini-DVI port. You cannot buy one without it. |
