Since being in Korea, I don't know what it is, but every major holiday totally goes by me unnoticed. 4th of July, Thanksgiving and now Christmas just totally crept up on me, and I remembered the day of or maybe the next day that, hey, it was __________ yesterday!
I totally feel isolated and removed from my home land's holidays and traditions.

Christmas here is just another day, mostly because the locals around here won't celebrate Christmas for another couple of weeks yet. Also, it doesn't particularly feel like Christmas (as far as the weather goes) because it feels like this for about eight months of the year here.

Humbug!

Someone gave me a bad cold for Christmas, so I'm trying to rest and drink plenty of fluids.

However, I found plenty of Christmas things to do this season. The Highlight was probably going to see Handel's Messiah performed in it's entirety, but I also went to a couple of kindergarten Christmas pageants.

Back home, my family got together on an alternate day so that my siblings could see their in-laws today. It would have been kinda dull even if I was at home.

It feels like Christmas to me waking up to the fluffy white snow coming down, but one far from anywhere Christmas is celebrated. It's a white Christmas, but not a festive one, because the people factor I associate with the holidays is lacking. While a little bit of Christmas style is put on in stores like Dunkin Donouts playing carols, Christmas isn't celebrated even though it's a holiday on our calendar. I expected just that in the East, but envisioned I'd be spending it with new friends from those 7 different Western countries represented here.

I'm watching the "A Christmas Story" marathon on American cable TV, making mushu (can't really order Chinese takeaway here unless I want jjajjang) and egg nog with friends. Feels like Christmas here.

I'm kind of a grinch back home. I never decorated my apartment in America as I would just go to my folks' house.

I can do without the Xmas movies and songs and lights and crap.
I feel like I should be doing something because I know people are going to ask me how I spent my vacation. But more than that, it just reminds me that I am lonely. I wish I had friends. Sad

I'm watching futurama until it's time to meet up with people I would call acquaintence-friends. Ones you end up being with due to lack of other choice.

I would be perfectly happy if hotels weren't fricking fully booked as far as the eye can see in Hong Kong >=( Which was my own personal Christmas present.

GO HOME!

Seriously, why do you stay in this dump of a country???! They certainly can find another english teacher if you leave... Why not be with the people that matter the most - family and friends?

I'd be gone already, if my Korean wife didn't make me stay here.

Haha, please tell me this is a joke. This is the LOWEST of all statements. I've commented on it before and how ubiquitous it seems to be on Dave's.

'I hate my life, I hate this country, I hate the people, the economy, the culture. Man, if it wasn't for my life, I'd have left this country and actually been happy with myself'.

Makes me chuckle. It seems standard to come to Korea, get with a korean and be miserable, but under the illusion that you are happy because you have a wife.
(not you personally, just pointing out what I see a lot)

HA HA..it's sixty degrees here on Christmas morning. They're forecasting snow later today, but somehow doubt is highly unlikely given the fact that we are in Atlanta and havn't seen snow in over 10 years.

Sick of traffic, shoppers and the American "Retail" idea of buy, buy, buy.

Last of all, Iam with the Miller family for 3 streight days and that is enough to drive ANYONE insane. Surprised

Oh well, better luck for New Years' Cool

As an adult the notion of feeling 'Christmassy' is lost on me. I can appreciate the nostalgia from seeing the decorations and hearing the music but it is holiday best enjoyed by children. Being a Secular Humanist probably doesn't help either.

That said the turkey is in the oven and a six pack of Stella Artois awaits.

I feel Christmassy- bloated! My brother sent me a giant food basket via www.flowerseoul.kr

There's cookies and chocolate and cheese, marmalade and wine vinegar and sausage and a can of low fat cream of mushroom soup ... brother says there's supposed to be haggis in the package, but thankfully, there isn't!

I had a dinner with friends last night, which was good, but I wasn't that hungry because I can't stop nibbling on these darn cookies.

This is the best boxing day EVER, though. Nibbling on cookies all day again and watching Wife Swap on YouTube Very Happy Fantastic! I'm really grateful for my easy and emotional-drama free Christmas.
