I am going to vietnam for a week. I heard it is best to have USD there and small bills work great since things are so cheap. I am wondering what is the best way to exchange my won into USD.
Should I exchange my money in korea, or bring won and exchange it in vietnam?
Also, will the banks in korea be able to give me a bunch of $10, $5, and $1 bills?
I plan on bringing about 700 dollars USD with me. |

This is pretty simple:
DO NOT TAKE WON OUT OF KOREA.
Buy dollars or dong here in Korea (dong at the airport).
Most banks should be able to give you $10, 20 and larger bills.
Your best exchange rates are on US$100 bills after you land (usually about 1/2% better than smaller denominations.
Get a pocket full of 10s and 20s for your 1st day and use larger bills for the rest (easier to carry as well).

don't use anything bigger than a 20 in vietnam and even that is too big for most things.
when you're in vietnam, don't let them give you big denominations - you will get refused at most places... |

Second that.
I found it impossible to change won into dong at the banks in Vietnam.
Definately change before you go.
Ive got a coupon for 50% off currency exchange fees at KB Star if you PM me. Should save you 10,000 won on $700. |

You can get these smaller notes, and a fat stack of brand new $2 notes if your lucky too. |
