I don't use TOEIC or TOEFL material unless the student seems interested in going over it. However, I looked up the definitions of both and wondered what middle school students should use.
TOEIC is labeled "every day business conversation", TOEFL "academic setting for college". So, we can prune the TOEIC lessons and use some of these in middle school classes.
But is there one more geared for middle school students that isn't business centered? Something like TOEMS (Test of English Middle School). |

All the Korean English teachers teach for the test. That's why your students speaking ability is so poor. Teaching for the test in Korean usually involves extensive lecturing in L1. This is not an effective methode of teaching. The Korean government has hired foreign teachers as a means of eliminating this method of teaching. |

Neither one seems all that appropriate for the average middle schooler. If students have specific goals in the future then you could choose one. TOEFL is more important for overseas plans, while TOEIC is more focused on working in Korea.
Not really sure what else they could be prepared for. TEPS might be a possibility? |
