I think he was here before the "great spelling change of 2000" so it would be natural for him to write, Tongseop.

Holy cow! Who is that Darrin312 guy!?!?? Embarassed

Anyway I know it sounds goofy but thats how HE spells it- so in his memory I will preserve his spelling! Very Happy When I talk to him I dont say "TongSeop" I say "DongSeop". And yeah- its not the same here since he left. I worked with him (in some capacity) on virtually all of my projects here; this change will take some time to get used to!

It seems like all the good people quit this job.

For Christ's sake Sheeon, give it a break. Are you an expert on the McCune-Reischauer system of romanization? Perhaps you prefer the Hangeul Romanization system announced by the Ministry of Culture in July 2000. Perhaps you lean toward the Yale, Lukoff and Horne methods.

Are you an expert on transliteration?

Let's take this off topic for a second. (Apologies to Lush and Mr Pink)

Sheeon, would yopu care to explain to all reading this thread the correct way to spell George Bush? Don't bother replying, because we all know that it would end up sounding like "Jor-juh Bush-ee".

That BTW was a cheap shot I just took at you. Sort of like the one you took at Lush, right?

Whoa, hold on just a second, where did that come from. I'm not starting another argument here. I wasn't trying to correct Lush either, just thought the name was "funny". Laughing
I'm not a linguist, but since every korean knows that there is no such name as 뼷, I have naturally assumed his name to be .
If you ask me about the difference between the two, even you can figure out why T should not be used. To an average Korean, it does sound "goofy" If that guy had gone to a Korean school with that name, well, I don't want to imagine. Tong, by the way means barrel.

It's the guy's name. Wouldn't you want your name to be pronounced correctly?

Actually, my english prounciation is pretty good, (you may not believe it though, ) I'll try, -rge sh how's that?

Lush, you said the good ones are leaving the company. Are they starting their own businesses or scouted away? Cheer up, you still have plenty of friends there.

Mr Pink, nice try, but that won't get me worked up. By the way, how was your visit to the doctor?

Its a mix of both- actually I just registered a .co.kr name- one day I imagine I will be working for myself!

Still those with the most ability seem to slip away from here at an alarming rate. IGO!

Now why was I visiting the doctor again? Though you write well, you seemed to have missed lush's little "mistake" he posted with his own "sock" and got caught doing it.

I know you, Sheenon are indeed not a sock...we established that on page 2 or 3...so don't get so worked up. Very Happy

That explains it. I was wondering why you were calling me a sock all this time.
Yes, little misunderstanding on my part. My apologies.

Don't be too hasty though, suck all the juices out of them first. Although it would be like a mosquito trying to suck all the blood out of a bull.

If they're being scouted away, is there really a better place to go than where you currently work? I believe working in Korea doesn't offer too much in way of variety.

Here is another question, is your performance at the company evaluated? Do you get the same treatment as the others?

I guess Shinchon_blues doens't have any more to add regarding the spelling change. It's just common sense. Busan is much better written than Pusan. I know that it's confusing at the moment, with so many different versions of spelling they come up with, but soon they'll settle down.

Nothing to add on my part. I made the point I wanted and you reinforced it. Very Happy

But as soon as it does settle down, the government will probably adopt a new system.
As far as the Busan/Pusan thing goes, anyone know why the infamous Korea Times still uses the old spelling?
Or why Pusan National University still adheres to the old system but Pukyung has been changed over to Bug-Yeoung on some signs?
Or why the transliteration of 'moon' is spelled m-u-n which looks like it should rhyme with run?
Or why Korean last names (Kim, Park, Lee) have not been touched?
Or why the last name Chae is spelled like Choi which looks like it would rhyme with toy?

Back to the original topic of crying male co-workers, I think I might have met the guy.
Came home the other night to find a guy crying in the stairwell of my building.
He was still there some eleven hours later when I went out the next day.

P.S. lush, must thank you for what has been the most entertaining of threads in a while. Sure it went wildly off topic at times but I think that is what gave it its charm.
