Hi,

I'm thinking about going on a strict diet: http://www.scarsdalediet.com/

The website reccomends using hoodia or another appetitie supressant, because it's really low calorie.

Can you get these in Korea? I really want to undo these past few days of lying on the ondol eating boxes of cookies, and want to give this diet a try.

sorry i can't help you here, but what's the idea behind the scarsdale diet? with the atkins diet, you're going into ketosis which burns as your primary energy source. this is a high protein/fat, low carb diet but it includes complex carbs??

The Scarsdale Diet is just really low calorie. You go on a really low calorie diet for 2 weeks where you eat really specific stuff, then cycle into 2 weeks of somewhat higher calorie where you choose your meals more, then lower calorie...

I don't know if I will actually do this. I really hate staying on a diet. Okellys' is good advice. I just haven't been out exercising since it's been cold. Blah, blah excuses...

I think I just have a big sugar hangover today and feel really remorseful. It's like the feeling that made me give up drinking... How does one quit all junk food, though? Can I do it?

i don't think these diets are silly. here's why.....

when you eat a balanced diet and exercise, of course, it's the healthy way, but it also takes a lot longer. when it takes a long time to see results, people tend to lose motivation and then they just give up.

when you go on a diet, like the atkins diet for two weeks, you're able to burn off a lot of excess fat. so then you go into the gym after you've burned off 20 lbs and your motivation is a lot higher. you want to keep it up. then you're able to eat a more balanced diet and do things the "healthy" way.

losing weight or gaining muscle is 70% right dieting and 30% working out.

Hmm maybe I'll do Atkins *again* for a couple of weeks, because my naughty foods have been sugar, sugar, and sugar. Maybe I feel light headed as a result of 100% sugar for the past couple of days and 0% protein. I don't think watching Wife Swap on Youtube for 10 hours straight yesterday helps, either. There could be a big nutritional imbalance, physically and mentally.

We are in the same boat!

I tried a hoodia supplement a few years ago, but it didn't have any effect. It just isn't controlled enough. I am pretty open to placebo effects, but this did nothing. Maybe a more expensive brand would work better?

What I do find helpful is drinking extremely potent matcha (powdered green tea). It makes me feel full (sometimes nauseous if it's all I have had, but I don't mind) and it has a caffeine boost to boot!

I am looking for a way to burn off my "Christmas cake" calories and kick start to get those final 10 lbs I've been trying to lose for years. (My body just LOVES being at my current weight).

I'd like to find something to help my metabolism. I know exercise helps, but even at my peak of 10km/hour + weights 5 days a week, it took me like 4 months to lose 4 lbs. That is slow and upsetting. Sad(

I know, the problem of not losing *fast enough*... That's why I quit doing Atkins, but I didn't substitute it with another diet. I think I was gonna, but didn't.

I heard Atkins only works once, then it doesn't work again. I'm not sure if it really *worked* the other time I did it (ie. I didn't turn into Meagan Fox)... but I didn't feel like a big fatso... which I normally don't, but lying on the floor for a few days eating cookies sure seems to have done it.

Isn't weight loss great? Just the thought of it brings out the excuses...

-Won't join a gym because I'm going on vacation in a few weeks. I'll join one when I get back. Going on vacation in itself isn't a reason to join the gym, because it's not like I'll become Meagan Fox in a few weeks.

-I can bundle up and go for a run, though! Unless if it's slippery or windy or really cold. Then, forget it.

-Super low calorie diet... ugh! Horrible! forget it.

-Low carbs.. ok, I can eat bacon and cheese for a while... it won't turn me into Meagan Fox, but at least I'll enjoy it!

atkins works more than once. i used to be into bodybuilding. had a six pack and all. then i had a gf, and had to work full time and school part time so i coudn't go to the gym as i used to. i'd do the two week induction phase of atkins to jump start myself when i did have time to go to the gym again. i've done this a few times. i even did it last year. works every time.

There is currently no scientific evidence that any of these shiny new diets work. People are just attracted to these "new and improved" diet systems because they seem like quick solutions to the problem. But none of these diets are truly sustainable. Seriously, come on, Atkins diet?

This is how one loses weight! The true, tried, tested, scientific method which is guaranteed to work. And I'm not even charging you to try it out! Or getting you to read a book. It's right here:

It's all about caloric intake versus energy output. You simply need to do the following:

1) Step 1: Watch what you eat. Make sure you are not getting over the daily recommended intake of calories (most important). Secondly, make sure the fat content of your diet is minimal. Cut down on meats (a tad), stock up on veggies & fruits, and don't overdo it with carbs. This doesn't mean you CAN'T eat them. You can totally get away with lots of wonderful (not even totally healthy) food in one day! Just don't overdo the caloric intake!

2) Step 2: Cardio-vascular exercise. Currently, our bodies metabolize energy at a certain rate. There is lots of evidence that shows people have different metabolisms. But everyone can up their metabolism. If you up your metabolism, your body will burn fat faster, and soon enough your body will balance out. Sure it may take longer, but the result is that it will last longer too! But you have to keep up your cardio-vascular exercise. It doesn't take much. Simply spend 30 minutes, 3-4 times a week running on a treadmill. In fact, the whole time you don't need to be running. You could speed walk, and run in 30 second intervals. Whatever it takes to get your heart-rate up! Then, have a rest the next day, doing light exercise at home (while watching a movie). Repeat.

The above method is the sure-sure way to lose weight. It works. It's constantly being tried, tested, and science proves it!

And this advice is FREE! Wink

P.S.

Ever wonder why some people have "naturally high" metabolisms? Well, they may be blessed with good genes, yes. But also, look into their childhoods. Did they play outside lots? Did they play sports in elementary school, high school? How often did you run as a child? You'll probably be surprised that many children run and run and run... this actually increases one's metabolism and lasts even into adulthood. You could have a very sedentary 25 year old man, who simply drinks beer, watches TV, and eats potato chips and coke every night... but he'll be skinny! Why? Because he ran like a mad man when he was younger. That high metabolic rate is still burning his calories faster than ever. So, my advice? Be like a kid and start running again! You'll thank yourself for it...

Ok, I'll give the Atkins a shot and we'll see! I'll do it all hard core and even count the cheese carbs, and... no stick coffee... oh dear. No carrots, no tangerines...

I find it hard to be rational when counting calories. It seems easier to just minimize/eliminate a micronutrient, but then there's always the problem of finding out there was sugar in something you ate, and then freaking out because you blew your diet...

I'm wondering if Atkins didn't work miracles for me because I was still eating too many calories... ?

Ah, exercise... I was a heavy runner until it got cold, so maybe that's why I feel so gross. Must. Get. Out. Again. Brrrr.

yeah, i do it the hardcore way, and it sucks. i even have to be careful about ham. i'd eat a log of eggs and samgyeopsal.

the one thing about atkins is that you don't feel hungry, you just have carb cravings.

i also make sure to supplement with fiber. all that protein and no fiber can be dangerous. you said you've done it before but the results were too slow?

I know myself, I won't run in the cold. I hate cold. Also I don't own sweatpants. Seriously, I can make excuses all day. ^^

I know it's all about calories in vs calories out, but if I could give my body a helping hand chemically or thought "Non-exercise activity thermogenesis", I'm all about it.
