|
|
I searched the forums and I couldn't find anything But let me know if there's already a resolved thread on this.
I want to send some pretty big packages to Korea from Vancouver, Canada, what's the cheapest way?
I checked Canada Post's site and a box (25 x 25 x 25 cm; 5kg) is $78 ! The stuff inside is just worth $30...
This box is actually considered small and light compared to the other stuff I want to send over, so I'd really like to find a cheaper way to send stuff.
I'm also going to move to Korea permanently eventually so I have to bring everything over. Would it be cheaper to send everything before I go or just bring an extra suitcase on my flight? From all the things I hear about missing packages, I think I might have to swallow the extra fees at the airport...
I found this Korean company:
http://www.hanjin.com/en/main.jsp
But it seems like they just ship cargos and I can't find any information on how to calculate shipping. Do they ship small packages such a gifts?
I won't be shipping huge packages until I'm getting ready to move to Korea.
Short version of this thread:
I am looking for cheaper alternatives for shipping things to Korea.
1. I want to ship small packages (boxes) with presents for Korean friends inside.
2. I want to ship big and heavy things to Korea when I move there. Here are some of the things I can think of to give you an idea:
- Sewing machine
- Jewelry boxes (pretty big, 27 x 27 x 14 cm)
- Some giant teddy bears (sentimental value... I know there's a lot of teddy bears in Korea, but yeah)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

When I was in Vancouver I found a FedEx store and noticed they had a sign in Korean for taekbae. This was in the Kerrisdale area, around the corner from Shopper's Drugmart. I have no idea if that service was just available in the Vancouver area or what, but the guy who ran the FedEx place was Korean and very helpful. He might be able to give you some suggestions as far as shipping options. It was on the same street as the Secret Garden Tea Company. (Stop in and have high tea there if you want a treat!) |

The cheapest way (possibly free) would be to stand at the Air Canada check in counter at Vancouver airport an hour or two before a flight to Incheon and convince one of your fellow Canucks to take it in their checked luggage or carry on, and then have whomever your sending it to pick it up at incheon airport. Sadly you'll find airport security might not be too happy with this approach... |
