Hey everyone.
I'm new here so I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong place.
So I just finished a contract of teaching in Korea on an E2 Visa, and I came back to Canada for a break before jumping into whatever my next employment will be.
Now, while my original plan was to stay here and prepare my documents again while searching for a new job and get a new E2 visa, I want to consider some other options.
My fiancee, who is Korean and I left behind there, wants me to come back as soon as possible. As such we've been considering finally tying the knot legally (which we've been procrastinating on for ages now) so I can get an F2 Visa. And on my own account, I feel completely out of place at home and I think I should cut this little 'holiday' short before I'm here for many more weeks than is comfortable for me.
Regardless of anything else I will be marrying her and going for the F2 visa shortly after I get back anyways, so I'm wondering if it's better for me to jump through all the hoops for the E2 visa again or go for the F2 straightaways.
Basically, I want to go back to Korea as soon as possible, and at the same time finally marry the love of my life and get my residency. Will it or won't it be incredibly difficult to do this if I just return on the tourist visa?
Thanks for your help in advance guys. |

You should look into going back and getting stamped in as a tourist, get married, then apply for the F2. I believe you have 3 months as a Canadian, but not 100% sure.
I got married in Korea while under an E2 visa, left the country for our honeymoon, then re-entered as a tourist and applied for a F2 shortly after. Everything worked fine for us.

If he's from Canada, he'll have 6 months visa-free (unless that's changed). The nearest consulate can confirm that for you. |

Hey thanks for the replies! Very helpful stuff.
I was curious about the processing time of the f2 visa.
If I returned on a tourist visa would I be stuck unemployed and sitting around for several months? |

I was about to ask a similar question aswell.
I'm married to a korean since last year and she moved with me to canada. She has her Canadian Permanent residency and were planing on moving to korea in 2011. I was wondering IF i should apply for an F2 visa right away at the consulate or if it would be better to go in as a tourist and then apply for the F2....
Personally, I would like to apply for it in canada right away and get it over with. I'm just not sure about the requirements. Seems like my Wife would need to prove somekind of income/employment in korea? Which would be impossible since shes here with me. If thats the case i guess ill have to go in as a tourist and wait for my wife to get a job for me to apply for the F2?
anyone know? |
