In Korea it would have just been one little old lady with a perm beating him up with her purse, instead of the entire trainful of passengers punching and kicking him.

The Chinese can have a real dangerous mob mentality if you manage to piss them off. If they see a commotion they love to watch and will even join in. You don't see this sort of public disorder in Korea so much, at least not anymore.

That being said, the guy totally deserved it.

He got off lightly, the Chinese showed a lot of restraint.

And in New York the guy would've been shot, along with a half-dozen bystanders. Real civilized.

Nationality has nothing to do with it, the guy was a jerk and while violence isn't the answer he---or we---can't cry racism because he got beat up.

careful there steelrails, if certain disreputable news agencies get a hold of that one then pretty soon foreign teachers will be facing random strip-searches for concealed weapons!

I'm not sure about the Cantonese, but in general in China you have to do a lot to make the Chinese get violent like that. Guy was way out of line.

Guangzhou has a reputation for being a little rough. Lots of guys coming from the impoverished countryside looking for factory jobs. After a 12 hour day in the factory they might be a little edgy, and this guys "mighty whitey" act did not go over. I think they showed restraint. he acted dangerous and they subdued him. Lots of the "farm boys "carry knives. Lucky for everyone that the police had taken this punk's knife before he got on the train.

I wonder how tall that foreigner was. I'd laugh if he ended up being 5"9. Especially how he dwarfed every person in the video, not to mention the subway.
