What do you think will happen in 2011? Share your thoughts.

North/South Korea - The Norks will continue to attack the South. In return the South will do what they have always done. "No North Korea, thats a bad North Korea!" There will be no conflict.

Internet - Censorship will be stronger, and slowly, without us realising all our favourite websites will start to be censored more and more. Before you know it, we wont be able to visit redtube etc. Life will suck. "This URL Has Been Blocked for Illegal Activities" Get used to it.

Climate Change - Weather events will occur and scientists will tell us its the hottest/coldest event to occur since records began. People will will be worried, then forget about it.

Celebrities - Someone famous will die. Things will be said. People will be sad.

War - More soldiers will die in the middle east. There will be talks of getting them out. More will die. They will still be there by 2012.

Disasters - A natural disaster will kill hundreds/thousands of people in a poor country. Aid will be send, money will be donated. A US president will pitch in and then will all be forgotten in a few weeks. The aftermath will go largely unoticed as peoples interest drops.

I will go to Thailand (leaving in a week!).

I will also go to Singapore and Boracay - those are already booked too Smile

Hopefully I will go to Malaysia in the summer, and China for Chuseok.

I will finally change jobs and move closer to Seoul. But I probably won't live in Seoul proper because I don't want to work for SMOE or a kindergarten.

The Meetup group I organize will continue to grow, maybe even reach 1,000 members.

More of my friends in the U.S. will get married and have babies.

The Oregon Ducks will win the BCS National Championship Game (well, I hope so anyway!).

In the West, the jobs outlook won't get much better.

Sarah Palin will finally announce her run for President.

2011 will change the way we view space.

WISE - if all works out the way it should (mathematically) the team will announce the presence of one or more brown dwarfs at a distance closer than Alpha Centauri. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylECEsurrcM

Kepler and others - should announce the discovery of one or more planets like our own

Dawn - will arrive at Vesta in July

SpaceX - set to begin ferrying cargo to the ISS in 2011

The OP wasn't exactly predicting anything... No more than predicting that Nitrogen will still be a large part of the air we breathe, or Stephen King will release a new book...

Predictions that are not a given:

Tesseract's album will be absolutely awesome. This is a new melodic metal band who are very very clever but have only an EP released which isn't great, but the one single from the album is pretty amazing, and I have confidence it will be one of my favourite albums for a while.

I predict on my way back from Hong Kong (2nd), the snow will be so bad in Korea that I will get stuck and miss work for a day or so leaving everyone else screwed and unable to contact me.

Erm...

Wikileaks will turn a bit sour, I think people will start to favour the government more a bit, but only because the media will portray it that way to make things more interesting or whatever (I suppose because they eventually his a soft spot on everyone somehow).

The Higgs-Boson will be discovered, but not nearly in the way we expected. Just in a complicated way that makes things even less understood.

I dunno, I'm not feeling very inspired right now.

Here's my top ten predictions for 2011;

1. The price of Kimchi will continue to rise and then fall again, and Kimchi will according to Koreans continue to cure cancer.

2. Koreans will continue to say Korea has the spiciest food in the world.

3. Koreans will continue to say only Korea has 4 seasons.

4. Koreans will continue to spit on the street.

5. Koreans will continue to leave the bathroom without washing their hands.

6. Koreans will continue to leave the bathroom without flushing the toilet.

7. Koreans will continue to ask westerners if they can use chopsticks.

8. Koreans interviewing westerners for teaching jobs will continue to ask their top two questions which are, (a) Do you like kimchi? and (2) Are you married?

9. Korean women will continue to wear the pants and Korean men will continue to carry the purse.

10. Korean men will continue to mix the bloodline with their mail order brides from Vietnam, China, Philippines (15% of the population and rising) etc, yet at the same time, bury their heads in the sand whilst talking about the 'pure Korean blood'. Wink

Happy Holidays all. Very Happy

The Chinese economy will experience a serious downturn (probably later in the year)

The American economy's recovery will be hampered by unrecognized losses from its zombie banks and the continued debt-slavery of its populace

In America, the Republicans will squander their opportunity in the House, namely through failing to meaningfully balance the budget, leading to an electoral defeat in 2012

The Tories in the UK will become a world model for responsible governance, avoiding foreign entanglements and actually addressing the UK's serious debt obligations

Canadian economic smugness will end as a cold wind from the South finally reaches Ontario and Vancouver
