I'll finish my second year in Korea soon. I'm at a public high school and my first year was at a typical hagwon.

My academic qualifications include a BA in Psychology and a Master's degree in Human Resources.

This summer, when I complete my contract, I'd like to get a CELTA and see what is possible for me.

I'd like to make more money and I think that I know how to survive and thrive just about anywhere...and it's okay if I'm wrong about that because in the scheme of things a year really isn't that long.

So...what may be possible?

Some questions that we all probably have,

Are you looking to stay in Korea or leave, do you care either way?

Do you want to make more money at the expensive of lifestyle, or are you willing to sacrifice money for lifestyle?

I think, if you are enjoying the Asian lifestyle then looking at other countries in the area may help you. Taiwan, Japan, etc.

If you wanna make $$$$ then you should check out the middle east, lots of cash to be made but you may die.

Of I can get a job that will both challenge me and pay a bit more, I would be thrilled. The middle east is not unthinkable, but I am female and an American, so northern Iraq is not an option.

Where would you look next if you were in my shoes?

BA + Masters + CELTA = enough to get a modest uni gig = which would typically have a higher base rate but probably exclude housing

Won't they mind that my master's isn't in English or Education? If that's the case, I'll definitely sign up for that CELTA and then sign up for whatever placement services they offer.

There are LOTS of uni jobs in Korea that you can get with just a BA, but you have to be willing to move to the smaller cities. You can get jobs in big cities with an MA. I know about 15 university teachers from various cities (including me) and not a single one has a CELTA. Take from that what you will.

If you are planning on making ESL your career, then yeah, go get a CELTA. If not, don't bother.
