If the North invaded us, why would they speak English in the first place? To rub it in the face of every hagwon owner? |

my co-teacher just informed me that government employees including teachers must be on alert and can't go on vacation or leave until further notice.

Yeah, like I said in my first post...it means that the GPOE has asked government employees to take on extra responsibilities. Which, like I said, means Korean teachers...not us. Like i said...we aren't 'goverment employees'.
It would be really unfair of the GPOE to expect us to take on the extra responsibilities of salaried, fully entitled, Korean staff....when we get so many less benefits. With extra reward comes extra responsibility...and we don't get any extra reward!
Anyway...I doubt that the Korean teachers will miss any of their vacation time anyway...it will all blow over by then. |

The simple answer to the question of whether or not GEPIK teachers are on alert is to ask whether or not any of you got called to go to your school at 11 o'clock the other night? I didn't. None of us did.
We are paid by the GPOE as an expense...we are not Public Servants. We're basically contracted labour. |

Civil servants are required to do their part in the event of war/attack/whatever.
The school administrator passed around an emergency phone contact sheet with everyone's phone numbers and then we all had a quick reminder about what to do in the event of war, yadayadayada... So while it may SEEM stupid, if the teachers want to keep their jobs, they are civil servants and the law says they have to help out... |
Teachers report to school in a time of war? (Serious question) |

the serious answer would be YES, IF that's what the govt orders.
They are civil servants and must do as the govt says. |
