I want to volunteer for three weeks at an orphanage in India after my contract before I go home. I heard they will only rein-burst your flight from your hometown in which you came from. Does anyone know whether there is anyway around this or have you heard of someone doing something similar?

It's different depending on whether you work for a public school or hakwon.
Generally speaking a P.S will give you 1.3 million won as an "Exit Allowance" and no more. You can use that to fly anywhere you want.
At a hakwon it's more flexible and depends on the contract. |

It depends on which version of the GEPIK contract you have:
a) Some would reimburse the flight to your home airport (if done within 10 days of the end of your contract).
b) Some would reimburse any flight out of Korea to a maximum of the cost of a direct flight home (as per the Korean air published prices).
c) Some give an exit allowance in place of the flight ticket.

I've got the version where you buy your ticket and they reimburse you within the month after you landed at your home airport. I've been informed that they check your landing status before paying for your flight. |

For what its worth, at the last orientation I was told that you must return to your home country within 10 days to see the money for your plane ticket. |
