|
|
I have recieved a position in S. Korea for the new year. I just went in for my visa interview in Chicago today and was able to use mty statewide background check I got months ago for the visa issuance number. As far as I know, I will be issued an E-2 Visa. My question is this: It is my understanding that with the new law for an FBI Check, foreign teachers asm myself will have to provide immigration with this document in order to apply for an Alien Registration Card. If this is true, I am planning on ordering my FBI Background Check in a day or two, and, even tough it takes around three months to get (not including apostille) and most likely will not meet the 90 day limit for the ARC, my recruiter said immigration will wait until I recieve it and I will be legal in S. Korea during this time so I can resume my employment. Does anyone have any feedback, suggestions or advice? Should I not go so as not to take a chance of being deported, for instance, if I am right in my understanding of the new immigration laws in S. korea? Thank you! Any help would be greatly appreciated? |

I think you should brush up on your sentence structure while you wait for that FBI check. |

Nope. I'm going to guess that the parents of your future students would care about proper sentence structure.
As for your question....everything gonna be a'ight. I wouldn't worry about it.

Hmm...this is a new one. I have not heard this. My ARC expires a few days before my visa and as far as I know, both are probably going to be renewed- I'm one of those cases that immigration may make an exception for- even though my FBI CBC is not here yet. I'm scheduled to work during the "transition time" from my current visa to the next. I'm not at a place that would let me work illegally and all signs are pointing toward me being on staff.
tanklor1- how do your students' parents feel about this?

FBI background check are processed quicker this time of year. For instance, about 1-5 weeks. Before it was 6-12 weeks. It depends on the season. Summer season takes a long time as a lot of students are requesting them.
Apostille, it can be done in the state (notary + apostille), if it is not signed and sealed by Kimberly (signer of FBI document), 1-3 days in person. If you're not in the state at the time, just have an agency www.apostillepros.com take care of it or perhaps a family member or friend.
If it is signed and sealed by Kimberly, it get sent to D.C., but that takes about 3-4 weeks as it takes 15 business days to complete not including the type of mail you use. Don't use USPS, try FedEx or UPS with tracking. If time is an issue, you can use an agency to expedite the process as it only take them 3-5 business days to take care of the apostille in D.C.
Just figure out what they need to get your Visa. Most teaching jobs in South Korea requires a FBI background check not a statewide check, but ask the recruiter to make sure.

Think about it. Why have the policy if they are not going to enforce it with a new teacher. I hope they are not making you pay for the ticket to Korea. |

Where can you get tickets to S. Korea for cheap? To visit to see if it's worth teaching over there.
