"Money can't buy happiness"; really? I can't speak for anyone else but having a roof over my head, good food, beers, and lots of other things that cost money make me happy!

I went to a sales seminar once and the big sales guru put it another way-it may not buy happiness but it can buy comfort.

Money can't buy happiness but I can sure rent it for a long time!

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

another way of saying this is: how can I miss you if you won't get lost?

Beauty is only skin deep: but ugly goes right to the bone.

The inner radiance of a wrinkled old grandmother staring at a newborn is quite lovely.

And notions of beauty change over time....

Not only did I forget to debunk it, but I also said it wrong. It should be,"There are no atheists in foxholes".

Anyway, I am fairly certain that there have been many atheists in foxholes. Here is what one Freethinker said:

They say there are no atheists in foxholes. But as we sat in those holes, praying that God would save us, I thought about the fact that the other side was doing the same thing. And then I wondered if God is just playing some kind of game with us. Pretty much I decided at that point there was no God,

And another:

"It's a denial of our contributions," says Master Sgt. Kathleen Johnson, who founded the Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers and who will be deployed to Iraq this fall. "A lot of people manage to serve without having to call on a higher power."

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Sounds a bit dyslexic

Well, yes you can. You can have it and eat it. How could you even ever eat it if you never had it? However,
" You can't eat your cake and have it too".

I've always disliked that "cake" one. If it's "my" cake, you're darn right I'm going to eat it! Try and stop me!

O.K. how about:
"He who smelt it dealt it" (I can't believe I've lowered myself to this)

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

It's actually in the brain and body, and in the form of pheromones.

Yeah, but now you are getting too technical. Actually, I think it's one of the truest ones spoken so far on this thread.

The play is on the double sense of 'have', which can mean both to be in possession of and to eat. Witness "what did you have for lunch?"

Curiosity killed the cat.
It has also been the driving force behind most inventions and exploration.

When it rains, it pours.

No it doesn't. Ever heard of drizzle? Or spitting?
