Thinking about buying a Kindle 3G with WiFi but I've read a few reviews that say the 3g internet doesn't work that well in South Korea. I'd like to use it to check my email and such (in addition to read the books), so the 3g thing is kind of a big deal.

Anyone have any experience with the Kindle's 3G coverage in Korea?

I got one in November. I try to use it for internet browsing but it's slow and email is especially difficult for me.
I haven't tried in the last few weeks because there was a time the pages weren't even loading

I've had one since August (bought in and brought back from the States) and have had no problems at all with downloading books. Haven't really tried the internet connection options though.

I bought the second version in April and haven't had any problems downloading books. I don't think I can use the internet with it, but I don't really need to.

I've said it before and I'll say it again-I cannot recommend this thing enough! It's been a lifesaver on the subway and long train and bus rides.

Just checked to see if the email worked and it did with no problem. Not the best for checking (text only) but it was fast!

notinKS I so agree! It's so nice to read what I want WHEN I want! I belong to Jungle Search which checks Amazon twice a day and sends me an email with any new free books available!

Thanks a lot. I'm still on the fence about buying it. I don't really want to get a phone with a data plan when I get over to Korea so the free 3G on the kindle would allow me to check my email and such while I'm on the subway.

Where are you guys buying the 3G Kindle. Korea? Where?

I've wanted to get one exactly because it lets you check email, or even use Google maps, internationally and for free. I talked to someone who has used it in Japan and the US for those purposes.

Would like to find if there's a list of countries with known, good access for the Kindle's 3G.

WiFi. The 3G is the memory.

There is no such thing as a "3G" network. The Kindle connects to "WiFi" which is Wireless Internet. The Kindle connects to everything using something called "Whispernet". I don't subscribe to any wireless systems and I still get my books downloaded at no charge.

The 3G stand for the fact that it has 3 Gigabytes of memory in which to store books.

3G is for the wireless network, the same network that cell phones connect to, allowing for data transfer. Remember the iPhone 3G?

I don't know how well it works on the Kindle.
