Not paying back is an excellent way to protest the unjust system, regardless of which country you are from. |
Why pay for the cow when you can get the milk for free? |

I like to shoplift from Walmart - it's not thievery; it's a protest to their unjust labor practices. |

I'm not paying mine back in protest.
Don't hit that farm or school in my name, and instead wipe out my (and hundreds of other poor people's) loan instead please Mr Government. Thanks. |

How is defrauding your fellow taxpayer "an excellent way to protest the unjust system"?
Governments and banks get money from the taxpayer. That is the taxpayer's money not theirs. |

Its not the taxpayers money once the government gets their hands on it. If it is truly taxpayer money as you say, why doesnt the government ask us if its ok to spend the money bombing the middle east, bailing out banks, paying insane pensions to public sector workers..... |

Tea party much?
A bunch of stuff has been enacted recently to make the situation better. Such as-10 year repayment if you work in the public sector, no more sally may predatory loans!, income contingent payment plans, etc.
Its not perfect but its a start. Ill try my best to pay back my loans but it just aint gonna happen (loads of debt). But student loans need not destroy lives. Just make an effort and dont ignore them. Last thing the govt wants are defaults. There is a big difference between ignoring them and not being able. Not being able it starting to be dealt with and as such ignorance should fall by the wayside.
NYCgrl- I worked in school too but I have debt. You are simply smarter, harder working, better looking, and overall a superior individual than I. |

Your theory sounds good, but its not reality. Many people voted for Obama specifically because he said he would end the wars. Surprise. We are still there. No we can vote him out next time for lying, but billions or trillions would have already been spent on the wars. |

No, I just got lucky through networking. Some loans do make sense, if you're working as well and still need the cash to cover everything. It's those who took out loans, didn't even attempt to work, and cry that life isn't fair. It isn't. I'd have loved to be able to devote more time to studies when I was in school. Life wasn't fair. |

I think Obama actually made it fairly clear he would continue to pursue the War in Afghanistan, and even intimated that he'd like to extend it to Pakistan. It was only the Iraq war that he spoke out especially strongly against, and politifact rates his behavior with regards to the Iraq War as "promise kept."
Anyone who voted for Obama with the hope that he would end the wars (plural) completely ignored what he actually said he would do. |

Yeah, working on the campaign all the official literature hedged on leaving Afghanistan and Iraq. Gave enough to keep liberals happy, but nothing set in stone. |

The peace candidates never had a chance. Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich were ridiculed. The establishment ensures through campaign contributions and blanket support from their media that only candidates who support the status quo can be elected. |

Very true. Obama has been largely consistent. The only things I don't remember him campaigning on were:
(1) I will get down on my knees for Wall Street
(2) Gitmo forever!
(3) Extend the tax cuts to extend my Presidency |

In regards to #2, I think that's basically an impossible situation to fix. #1, I think that just illustrates his weakness when it comes to business and financial matters (i.e. he's in over his head). #3, uggh.. What annoys me about that one is he campaigned AGAINST that extension. Well I guess he campaigned for closing gitmo too, but I figured that wasn't likely to happen. |
