much leaner.
why?
increased discipline re working out, feel more self conscious being plump here and there are less temptations to go out and do other stuff (I don't live in Seoul, but in the quasi sticks)
not into Korean food, better said, I like certain aspects of Korean food, but hate how Koreans screw them up (e.g drowning everything in sauce or mayo), Not into rice.
This means I make food for myself at home and once again there are far less temptations around to go and get something else (like my favorite pizza, nothing in Korea compares or can similarly tempt me)
no Wendy's.
ergo , more gym time, less temptation makes for a leaner more muscular moi. |

I gained about 5kg as well as likely lost about as much muscle. Not a good combination. I'm still a healthy weight but not my racie self. In the States I raced mountain and road bikes quite often. Racing here sucks. I had farmers market locally and overpriced places like Whole foods where I bought my bulk stuff like oats, nuts, and Cici peas. I could not wait to tear into a massive salad for lunch and dinner or a blueberry smoothie after an 80 mile ride. Greens here are OK and many veggies are available but it's just not the same.
Now I am surrounded by the buttho that is Incheon. Where I live is nice enough but serious bike riding is pretty craptactular at the very best. Construction trucks, broken (but new) road, and drunk drivers make road riding a one way trip to sports psych therapy. And thanks to all the helpful stairs on the local trails to help the girls with high heals go on their surprize dates, many of the MTB trials that I once enjoyed are largely unrideable. I will admit that the hiking is not horrible. Too bad there is a fantastic Samgyetang place on the best mountain. YUM!
However, last week was 4.5 hours on the bike through the junk yards, factories and dog farms. This week, hopefully 6 hours. Next week, 10? |

Since this thread began, I think I've boarded the fatty bus. I've stopped jogging because it's cold and also, I have evening classes. I've also started eating giant chocolate bars instead of meals. I think of them as 500 calorie meal replacements, but it's probably still unhealthy. I quit drinking booze, but I drink a litre of Cider a day. The fat cheque's in the mail... Good thing I'm going for that yoga retreat in Thailand, hopefully it'll sweat me straight. |

I definitely got skinnier, and I didn't weigh that much to begin with.
I lost weight simply because I walked more, did taekwondo 5 days a week and cooked a lot of my own healthy meals.
Now that I am back at home, I drive more, eat out with friends and don't exercise quite as much.
I just found it was easier to maintain a healthy lifestyle when I didn't have a car and had a good transportation system. The buses in my city are infrequent and late. |

Would anyone be interested in making a Fat Pact to lose weight in the new year?
We could merge topics from other threads into a single thread, share weight loss goals and milestones to encourage one another, exchange tips/tricks, whine, etc.
Could be fuuuuuuun. |

Dorothy: Count me in! This is my New Year's Resolution. After pay day, I am even buying a scale (and learning the formula to convert kilos to lbs BY HEART because my brain is still wired for Imperial).
Let's do this thing. I've got a yoga mat, tons of nearby mountains (and at least some very hilly streets!) to hike, and plenty of country to explore in my off time. |

Well, I'm back on Atkins and I feel way skinnier already. I don't know if I could lose enough weight to look really hot, but I just don't want to get *fatter*. I could maybe try to knock off a few more kilos... It might be worth watching my weight for longer than one month at a time. I'm normally very active with running, but not so much with the diet thing..
Actually, my weight is progressively lower by 3 kilos every time I get weighed in for the med check; I guess I could just stay in Korea for 3 more years and be really skinny |

I started Atkins 4 days ago as an early new year's resolution. The husband is away for 3 weeks, so I'm hoping to drop a few kilo as a surprise. I need to make up for the holiday food! |

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not throw the big "M" word around. I still plan to have indiscriminate sex with strangers and steal social security checks from the elderly well into the new year and beyond. Ideally simultaneously. |

i was 300 lbs when touching down in the Korea!
now, so many years later, i'm in top health and physically fit to run marathons and weigh in at a solid 160 lbs!
i love this Korea and owe it the sheer essence of my existence. |

Hear, hear.
For me, losing weight or getting into shape isn't a "moral" issue. It's not even in regards to what others think of me. My body isn't here to decorate anyone else's field of vision, it's just here to carry me around. That said, I would like to feel more comfortable in it, and losing a few extra pounds, toning up the flabby bits, and feeling more capable in basic daily physical activities like walking up hills and stairs would certainly help. I don't need to be a size 0 with a supermodel figure-- not gonna happen with my bone structure anyway-- but getting closer to my "ideal" for a healthy body would be nice.
And having some support from like-minded folks certainly doesn't hurt. Helped me get through those NaNoWriMo word sprints! I achieve my goals better with a bit of friendly competition/mutual support. |

I do need to be a size 0. I'm short, so at a size 0 I'm very fit (pilates) and still have proper curves where I should. Right now I'm a 3/4 (depending on brand) and am trying to get back down to where I was. A few kilo makes a difference on a short person. Stupid delicious noodles got me here.
I've lost a kilo in the past week, though, and shall continue with my diet for a month to 5 weeks. I needed to lose 6, so a kilo a week is a nice and healthy rate. Easy enough. The husband's out of town until the end of the month so it'll be a fun surprise to be nearly back to my size 0 jeans. |
