http://www.thewaygookeffect.com/2011/01/10-worst-kpop-videos-of-2010.html

Sorry, don't cry Simon and Martina, but K-Pop is dreadful. Here's the list of the worst videos. All of the videos can be seen at the above link.

Quote:

#10 - Shake! (쉐이크!) by E. Via (이비아)

Is it rap? She thinks it is. Koreans do to. The video is hilarious to watch, but that was not the intended effect. This song is awful for the fact that this woman has nothing on her skinny body that can be shaked. The live performances were also horrendous. If only this was a parody

#9 - "I'll Be Back" - 2PM

Arnold called, he wants his tag line back. 2PM is easily the most overrated KPOP group in Korea. This video is also a joke. 2PM is a group of great looking guys who are talented dancers. They could have saved this mediocre song. But they instead covered them in ridiculous make-up and made them act like spasses in this video. Whoever choreographed the dance might want to watch some old Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer videos and learn nobody got anything new to see here.

#8 - "So Sexy" - HAM

I almost feel bad picking on these girls. They named their group "ham". It is like picking on the special kid in class. HAM brought us the titty dance last year, and apparently they felt like they had some sexy leftover for us in this video. The concept is way off and there is nothing sexy about this video or this song. As long as HAM makes videos, they will probably be the worst KPOP has to offer.

#7 - "We're With You" - Kara (카라)

Kara has some great songs and some of the worst. Many KPOP groups released songs in support of the national team for the World Cup this year. They were all terrible. Kara gets to represent them all for just how annoying and pointless they were.

#6 - "Crazy About You" (너 때문에 미쳐) - T-ara (티아라)

T-ara is actually one of the best KPOP groups in Korea, they just made a train wreck of a video for what was a great song. The amount of camera zooms and edit cuts make your eye balls feel like they are going to explode. That maybe was what they were going for, but it makes for an impossible to watch video. Cute girls, just a horrible video

#5 - "Cooky" - Girls' Generation (SNSD / 소녀시대)

SNSD might be the group that all other KPOP groups are striving to emulate right now, but that does not give them a free pass for crap like this. They released a music video for a phone they were trying to sell last year and it was still pretty good. I do not understand what this song and this video is. It is actually so over the top that it is disturbing to watch and listen to. I know this video is really just a long commercial, but seriously, this video creeps me out.

#4 - "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" - Lee Hyo Ri ()

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a 1968 feature film based on a popular children's book about a magical car. This song is the biggest steaming pile of pointless nonsense of the year. The worst part is that Lee Hyo Ri is one of the most gorgeous women on the planet and they somehow found a way to make her look unattractive. The video is boring and the song is annoying.

#3 - "Maezeltov" - ZE:A

MNet does not allow for their music videos to be embedded on other websites. It is because they suck so much. The official music video is (here). ZE:A had the worst use (or non use) of English in a KPOP video. The chorus line for this song is the days of the week. The song is also titled "Mazeltov", which is not English. Did they even know this? The name of their album was also called "Nativity." Also... did you notice the parachute pants? These guys are ridiculous looking. The live performance is also funny because they cannot pronounce the "Z" in mazeltov.

#2 - "Change" - Hyun Ah

The most disturbing thing about this song was that this was one of the most popular songs of the year. Easily though, the hip thrust dance for this video was the most vulgar and just silly. Points to her for correctly saying "change" instead of "chang-gee". At least Korean kids might stop pronouncing the "e" at the end of this English word.

#1 - "Cast" - G-mA$ta

This song never made it on the radio. I doubt many networks invited this KPOP artist to do a live television performance either. Most Koreans have also probably never heard of him or heard this song. But this song easily has to be #1 on any list for it's original use of English lyrics. Check it out for yourself. I won't ruin the surprise...

I effing LOVE LOVE LOVE "Cast". It's like the coolest Kpop song I've heard. ^^

Then again I love any kind of vulgar, catchy song. I think it's the juxtaposition of sugar and spice that makes it so delicious. Smile

ETA: I think Shake is amazing too, btw. If you honestly think she can't rap, then you're cray cray. Listen from 1:52-2:05. Very Happy~~

BUT, I agree with you on Mazeltov. I have to laugh so I don't cry.

I thought T-ara's 너 때문에 미쳐 was okay.

But yes, Lee Hyori's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was absolutely awful. It made me want to start destroying me frontal lobes.

I just looked it up... it's amazing how they can collect almost all of the gaudiest sounds imaginable into one song.

I have heard music in this country which I refuse to believe is in any way human-created... it's like the work of some kind of horrible machine (not a computer because that would imply potential complexity)... the very idea of it being considered music seems utterly absurd.

Cooky is not really a Music Video. Its the advertisement for the phone, there isn't even a full song for it, sadly.

I remember when I showed this video (2AM "I Was Wrong") for a video critique class during summer camp, one girl said it was "terrible" and "she never wanted to see it again".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwfFeBO7eKk

Basically, a girl has 4 boyfriends, they fight over her, and it's treated like really serious thing. I have a feeling, though, that this is considered a good video...

It is hilarious, but good? No.

She does that in all of her songs. I put some of Shake in my goofy "history of Korean dance" at MT.

However, "Bo Peep" was pure ddong. Unfortunately, I put this in my "history of Korean dance", too.

E. via is awesome. So is T-ara. So is SNSD (that was just an advertisement). I don't see what all the hating is about. K-pop, at the least, is entertaining.

I thought "Shake" was tons of fun. The video was cheesy, with the bouncing butt-shaped line drawing with "SHAKE IT" bouncing alongside it, but... fun.

HAM were interesting. They seem like the K girl group who would most likely make it in the US. You could translate that video into English and have Snoop or Luda do a rap bit and it could compete with the Pussycat Dolls.
