|

I requested a change of schools within the same POE for next month. I have my personal winter vacation from Jan 19-Feb 1 (and then three days off for Seollal, yay!). I know the new school year starts on Mar 1, right? So I have several questions:
1. What will I be doing from Feb 2-28? Isn't there like one week of actual classes during that time or something? Can anyone shed more light on this?
2. What's the deal with moving my apartments? Has anyone else had experience doing this? I.e., what's the overlap between when I'd have to leave my current one and when I'd know my new school and be able to move into my new one?
3. Do I get a plane ticket home and back if I'm renewing but transferring schools? When would I take the trip? And how does visa renewal work?
O_O Thanks for any help you can give. I suppose I should e-mail the POE, but I'm curious about other people's experience. |

Very good change you won't know where you're going until the last day of your contract. That's right, you might not know until literally the night before when you're getting drunk at some noraebang with your soon to be former colleagues. Usually someone will call the head administrator about where you're headed and then it works it's way down until the news gets to you.
It's very possible you, or you're main ct will be the very last to know. So be all packed up and ready to leave within a minutes notice. Also, expect your new school to be caught by surprise, they might not have accommodation for you. So for the first few days you may have questionable accommodation, and for the first few weeks you might not have all the furniture you might want. That's the worst case scenario that I've been put in twice.
As for your trip back home, take your trip before you get transferred (that is before the end of your current contract). As for visa renewal, your new school will get instructions on what steps they need to take. It's basically how well your assigned teacher executes those steps. |

Get in touch with the Foreign Teacher Coordinator for your province. Your school likely won't know what's on other than that youre leaving. Your new school may not even know who you are. You can sort out all the details with the Coordinator. That's their job. |

Thanks for the advice! I'll e-mail the foreign teacher coordinator.
I'll have all my things boxed up by the end of February. How have you done the moving process - is it worth renting a moving company for an hour or so? (I have some big things like my hedgehog cage, my suitcases, my computer, etc.)
As for the trip home, I can't afford to go until I get my renewal bonus. It's possible I could convince my dad to loan me the money. Should I just go ahead and plan on doing that? Will they reimburse the airfare? |

If you have no furniture, most likely all your bags will be going into you're ct's car and your ct will drive you to some meeting spot if they are getting someone to replace you. Otherwise they'll get a bongo truck and a driver. Be aware that you might have to pay for the truck, or if the school is really nice they might cover it. Talk to your ct to confirm things.
Renewal money you won't see until you comeback. Also, don't they give 750k of your airfare money now and the other half when you come back? |
